Bored and having the worst headache and flu, watching travel and expat videos on tiktok and everywhere seems so amazing (at least compared to how I’m feeling right now😆) and I was wondering what countries would be great to live in?

I’ve just spent a lot of today googling beautiful properties in….. France!
I love the food, the language and a lot of the culture. Depending on how adventurous you are, you can still buy a wreck for ?£25K and spend probably £100K doing it up.
I also found something for £250m where they
wanted you to show evidence of your Forbes listing before they would even let you view it!

It just appeals to me - I think it’s a beautiful country. I love Finnish style and design. I read all the Moomintroll books as a child and loved them, so possibly that has something to do with it. 😄

France, if I could speak the language fluently I’d be there !

England for me, I love it. I’ve been to 60 countries and wouldn’t want to move to any of them.

kcieciara · 25/07/2023 18:19

New Zealand

JadeClade · 25/07/2023 18:20

My ideal is the UK

Best climate, best wildlife, best education system, best public transport, best media

AgentProvocateur · 25/07/2023 18:21

I love Spain - the towns, the cities, the countryside, the food, the people. Currently learning Spanish with a view to moving there for a decade or so when I take early retirement.

littlehattie · 25/07/2023 18:21

I'd love to live in Iceland for a year or so. Absolutely adore it there

TheWayTheLightFalls · 25/07/2023 18:22

Holland. I speak(ish) Dutch, I like their pragmatism and how happy kids are there. Also, fried everything.

FindingMeno · 25/07/2023 18:22

Norway or Ireland.
Obviously I could be talking out of my arse as I've never been to either.

Wattiss · 25/07/2023 18:23

Panama.

Emmamoo89 · 25/07/2023 18:25

England

LindorDoubleChoc · 25/07/2023 18:25

I'm happy in London. Second choice would probably be Brittany or Normandy in France. But there's so much I don't know about living there as opposed to holidaying there. It used to be south eastern France but the many recent very hot summers worry me.

Ozgirl75 · 25/07/2023 18:27

I wouldn’t want to live there at this point in my life but having just come back from Greece, I can understand why people would retire there. Friendly people, delicious healthy food, lovely scenery, nice flat sea. Not enough for me to do day to day but it was truly lovely.

Helpmymenopausalfanny · 25/07/2023 18:28

The Netherlands.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/07/2023 18:28

Spain - ideally Majorca- I like Palma, the food, the weather and the language is easy plus lots of English spoken . I really like Germany too in the right places .

BMW6 · 25/07/2023 18:30

Anywhere in Scandinavia I think. I used to want to retire to Greece but had to give up that idea as mozzies just bite me relentlessly 😕

Hawkins0001 · 25/07/2023 18:32

I like the idea of eg Alaska with all the snow, but then not sure after a while, then thinking London due to the various buildings and museums etc.
Had considered the windy city, in America too for a couple of years

WoolyMammoth55 · 25/07/2023 18:32

I'd like to give any of Italy, France, Costa Rica and Greece a go!

Absolute dream is Japan though - although we did experience some racism there as white europeans, which was interesting :) But OMG the culture, the food, the history, the temples... I'd be off in a heartbeat!

I have had fantastic holidays in Finland OP and do love it there - I agree with PP about the Scandi cool, Moomin-genius, plus northern lights and the cleanliness really appealed to me... But I couldn't do the winters.

We tried to relocate to the US, as DH has dual nationality, but the gun drills in the classrooms are a red line for me. Will never put my children through that. Also the general mad gun culture, and now abortion bans. The poverty is also very distressing - the very visible homeless underclass living out of rubbish bins. Couldn't do it.

Irish Republic. Either that or Finland.

I'm in Irish Republic. Massive housing crisis, idiots in government, constant rain and (in Dublin) gangs of feral teenage thugs assaulting people.
It can be very very beautiful though.

I think I'd go for South of France.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/07/2023 20:03

@BMW6 never got a single mozzie bite when we lived in Copenhagen!! I'm like you - I have a mozzie radar I think

OhcantthInkofaname · 25/07/2023 21:51

Canada. Or Ireland!
