To think that people who use parent and child spaces without children are selfish *****

Fill in the starred swear word as applicable.

I've only started truly noticing how many idiots do this since I had my baby 4 months ago. I can't believe how many people I've seen do it. And yes I always call them out and have had some pretty disturbing abuse thrown back.

I have also always reported to the shop staff to be told it isn't illegal and there's nothing they can do bar having a parking attendant out constantly which isn't possible (I know this isn't the shop staff's fault).

No disabled spaces? Fair enough, crack on. But this isn't the case 99% of the time. People use them because they are close to the entrance. I would rather the spaces be far away from the entrance with a small trolley park nearby with car seat/child seat trolleys.

Yesterday I purposefully parked straight down the middle of two normal spaces because I didn't want to risk having to reverse out just to get my baby's car seat back in. As I was walking in I witnessed 3 separate very able bodied people walk back to their cars without children.

Just really pees me off 😒

To the people parking across two bays, I understand what you are doing and why but please be careful of the individual car park rules. I was in one of the car parks managed by private companies (the ones that like to send you fines when you haven't overstayed) recently and the sign basically suggested they'd charge you if you parked across two bays, which is obviously ridiculous.

Wigglewigglewitch · 27/07/2023 22:29

Why is everyone getting their car seats in and out all the time?!

Elaina87 · 28/07/2023 09:34

Yeah it's infuriating. They are selfish. I have a just turned 5 year old and a 12 week old baby so very much need a parent child space and it's wound me up no end. There are definitely able bodied people with no kids taking those spaces up. But please don't put yourself at any risk by having a go at them, its a battle we won't win.

So you never go on a trip to any of the many places that don’t have p and c spaces? Or does your need disappear then?

supersonicginandtonic · 28/07/2023 12:33

@Wigglewigglewitch I agree, there really is no need 🤷‍♀️

I'm guessing that they have bought posh travel systems where it attaches to a pram

Posh? Hardly.

They come in all budgets.

In fact my eldest had a cheap Graco travel system and my youngest had a separates.

Travel system cost under £150

Pram with carrycot, pushchair unit and separate infant car seat totalled £750

It's about making life easier for mums why should idiots make people's life difficult because they don't want their doors banged on the shiny new motor....because that's why they really do it.....and they happily do it to disabled people too everyone is less important than them.

Ok parked at my local shop today the space either side of my car was 12 to 14 inches I could hardly get out of the car the spaces were painted last year and everyone says they are too small how would you get three into the car? Were not talking about removing seats but physically being able to lift them in

I was asking based on that poster saying she needed P and C spaces. Given most places don’t have p and c I am intrigued how she manages!

blahblahblah1654 · 28/07/2023 13:49

Yes its inconsiderate but not against the law. It's very inconsiderate to park across 2 spaces too. I'm crap at parking and still wouldn't do that even with my toddler in the car.

My car is filthy and definitely not new 🤣. I use them as I have to even though my daughter is older. If you saw us, no doubt you would think we don’t deserve to park there. You would assume we consider ourselves above everyone. You couldn’t be more wrong though.

Chillichic · 28/07/2023 13:58

Interestingly, when you go to very child led places like soft play you never see P&C spaces. They’re all just regular car parks. Then there’s places like libraries, our local one has lots of baby and children’s sessions like story time, singing and crafts. The sessions are always heavily subscribed but there are no P&C spaces, they all manage to make do though.

Why do you need them over anybody else? If you need access to strap your child in a seat you meet what the space is intended for.

Or the ones who can't fit in the space park elsewhere or avoid going.
The soft play is obviously all users so can't all be double spaces....but then again a child who can run around soft play can climb into the car not need lifting

Excellent point - supermarkets would be better getting rid of the P&C places and convert them into additional disabled spaces

My child is older but has balance and coordination problems. Not enough for a BB but enough to need support to get in and out otherwise she gets injured (and damages other cars). She can’t squeeze out of a door like I can. Generally though, I try and head for the very far end of car parks as it’s usually quieter and I can find an end spot. Sometimes we just have to drive round and find street parking as it’s more accessible.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 28/07/2023 15:06

I really don't know why more cars don't have sliding doors, so much better for access.

Do you mean £150 essentially gives them car seat and pram until age 4? If so, that is cheap. I had a 0-4 seat and a lay flat umbrella pushchair that would cost more than that. When I had my child only the middle class parents had travel systems.

No, it was years ago so prices are not comparable to now, but they costs I gave for both options were comparable with each other.

@jannier you just manage, most people do 🤷‍♀️

I'm 60 I've been managing with multiple children for 33 years but when a space is designated for a purpose it should be used by those needing it. When I'm caring for under 2s including the twins and an 18 month old I use the pc places when I have older children like the 3 year olds who can stand and climb I don't. When I take my disabled sister out we use disabled bays. When I'm 65 I won't be using a brown badge space unless by then I have mobility issues.
The point is that spaces are there to make life easier for people who would otherwise struggle not to provide guaranteed spaces for lazy twats or people who don't want to get their car doors scratched.
