Is this a lot of hair shedding during shower? (PICS)

Each time I shower. This amount of hair comes out. I was wondering whether it looked excessive as I’ve suffered hair loss before and have PTSD.

This is less than I usually lose

My 34.

Same thing happened to me. Third baby at 34 years. I did have post natal depression. A year after the birth my hair was falling out in handfuls. For what it’s worth the dr told me your hair sheds a lot from June until September and is not uncommon after having a baby - and it was true. It started thickening up again in the October so hang on in there.

I have waist length hair and that would be a lot for me, I typically notice only a few hairs coming out when I wash my hair, maybe three or four.

@FairAcre thanks. It’s nearly 2 years for me postpartum. Hopefully it goes away!

I get at least that much every time I wash it but I'm peri.

Really not a lot for me. I have curly hair so only brush it just before i wash it. I easily lose 3-4x that when I shower. If it’s noticeably more than usual for you, worth getting your hormone and other levels checked.

To me, that would be a lot of hair to lose - but I've got short hair, so the volume of hair is less when clumped together like that, and I wash it most days and brush/comb it a lot, so any loose hairs are coming out little and often rather than in one go. I'm sure that if (for example) I had long hair that I scrunch-dried without much brushing and only washed it twice a week, I would see a lot more hair in the plug-hole each time.

Hormonal changes and stress definitely have an impact on my hair, and so do things like a nasty cold or some other virus, so if this is more hair than you're used to losing, I'm sure it's just a temporary, cyclical thing that will rectify itself. You could try a multivitamin and mineral supplement to see if that helps over time, but unless it's super noticeable that your hair has thinned when you look in the mirror, or you have actual bald patches, I wouldn't worry. If you do get to a point where it's very noticeable and doesn't look within the bracket of 'normal' then you could see a GP for some blood tests, as things like thyroid imbalances can cause thinning hair.

Thanks all. I have booked an appointment with my GP for 23/8. But far away. Let’s see.
