to keep my landline?

I could save around £30 a month on an internet deal which does not include the land line..... but what happens in emergencies, power cuts, when the mobile phone system is down?

Realistically, it isn't used that much - I do give out my land line not my mobile number to various businesses, etc, that I don't want disturbing my day with phone calls - they can leave a message on the ansa machine at home instead. A couple of relatives use it, and I like the fact we can have a 3 or 4 way conversation, if everyone in the house picks up a reciever.

And I want it available for emergencies

But it is quite expensive, and not used a lot.

AIBU to keep it? What do other households do?

Which company is asking £30 a month for landline? That's absolutely bonkers!

Am assuming you've double checked uswitch etc OP?

My landline is £5 a month for unlimited calls with Virgin, would have be less without the free calls

I was wondering this too - our internet (fastest we can get) and phone doesn't even cost £30 a month. We have the phone line as there isn't an option not to, but we don't actually have a phone attached to it.

When we took a cheaper deal with the same provider we were forced to have the phone line through broadband. Not ideal when we are rural and have had power cuts where the mobile signal has gone down too. I thought the saving was worth it though seeing as we’re all being forced to change from old phone lines soon anyway.

I have a landline, I pay £2.38 a month for it. I never make a call on it but if I did it would cost, if I remember rightly 27p a minute. I like to have it in case I can’t use my mobile.
it is with BT who are also my internet provider. I think other companies such as Sky offer something similar.

There was a proper power cut in our area last year. It was a hit scary, no phone reception, no landline. And no candles at home of course. :-)

but do you have a corded phone to use in power cuts? Its only the cordless ones that don't work if there is no power? Or are you saying your corded phone didn't work either?
