Embarrassed about my camel toe

M00nknight · 21/07/2023 14:41

This issue makes me extremely uncomfortable. I often wear really long tunic tops over my jeans to try and hide down there as it makes me very self conscious. I also wear a long scarf dangling down even in the hottest day in winter just to cover myself. It's unbearable. I had a comment made many years ago thats prompted my Insecurity.
I've lost alot of weight recently and none of my clothes fit , so no tunics. I went out to the shopping centre last Saturday and I wore jeans and a blouse. My husband has always told me never to worry about it. Anyway I noticed one girl walk past me as I was standing In the shop. It was very clear she was looking down there then she glared up and gave me a dirty look.
Is this something I should be hiding ? As clearly it offends people . I feel so uncomfortable being around people. Have done for years and I feel like im not living my life , wearing clothes that I like because of the fear of being judged. I hate having to wear long tops. Sometimes i just want to wear a jumper or tshirt. I've never noticed other women so I don't even understand what would make someone even look there in the first place. I always wear jeans so it's not as if I'm walking around naked or in revealing clothing asking for judgment.
Basically I just wanna hear from other people your views as I honestly just feel so self conscious that I can't live a normal life

Ok this might sound weird, but could post a photo of your front wearing said jeans?! Then we can see if we can see one, and if so, why (like ill fitting jeans, etc)

Foxblue · 21/07/2023 14:56

It sounds like your jeans are too tight and/or too short in the body for you. Very common issue! You've done so well losing the weight, could you treat yourself to a new pair - have a little Google for 'super soft' or 'super stretch' jeans, and try 'ultra high rise' if you normally wear high waisted, or try 'mid rise' if you normally wear jeans that sit on your hips. Or even jeggings? How tall are you - do you have a long torso?

SleepingStandingUp · 21/07/2023 14:57

Have youactually looked at yourself in the mirror and can genuinely see it, or did someone say it once years ago so now you assume it's a thing you have forever? I can't imagine many women going around staring at each others crotches so unless it was really obvious (so v tight trousers, no knickers) I think you're being paranoid

D20 · 21/07/2023 14:58

You might be able to find some dress making measurements to see if your anatomy means you’d need trousers to be tailored in a certain way to sit right on you. Is the issue similar to this one https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sFsDunAUVHk

You just need to find the right jeans with the right fit. Have you tried Good American? Pricey but they have so many fits and they have stretch and are meant for all shapes and sizes. Might be worth the investment. What fit are you going for? A high waist? Skinny?

M00nknight · 21/07/2023 14:59

Thanks. I've never heard of covers or thought about a liner. I will give this a try. My jeans aren't skin tight, I even go for a size up that's looser on my stomach due to a medical condition but they always seem to still look fitted down there. I've never brought it up anyone in real life other than my partner as its a bit of an awkward topic . I had a comment made several years ago , a friend of a friend commented on it and they started laughing and making jokes around it. I think that's where my Insecurity has stemed from to be honest.
When this happened to me last week it kinda just made me feel uncomfortable and brought my anxiety regarding it back up

ElectricTouch · 21/07/2023 14:59

I don't wear jeans at all because in extensive searching, I have never found a style that suits me (plus size hourglass). In my head, I'm a cool and casual low-slung jeans and tank top wearing person but in reality you will find me in tailored dresses because that's what works for my body shape. You say you aren't comfortable in looser trousers or dresses, but you also aren't comfortable in jeans that make you self conscious about this issue so you have to find the place where you can compromise.

DramatisPersonae · 21/07/2023 14:59

Kindly, OP, this is your own issue. Whatever someone said about your crotch years ago has given you some form of sensitivity about it, as signalled by the fact that you're continually trying to hide it! It's incredibly unlikely that the passing woman gave you a dirty look because she took against something in your crotch region. Huge numbers of women walk around publicly in tight trousers, leggings and this year's tiny hotpants made from lclingy eggings-type material, which is essentially like going around in your knickers -- but I haven't noticed the League of Purity dashing at them with tablecloths.

Saschka · 21/07/2023 14:59

OP when you say camel toe, do you mean the visible outline of your labia, which is what most people are imagining, or just a prominent mons pubis (which is NOT a camel toe)?

M00nknight · 21/07/2023 15:00

@SleepingStandingUp yes , I can clearly see it myself when I look in the mirror. It just makes me feel so disgustingly and abnormal

OP posts:
SallyWD · 21/07/2023 15:02

I've never noticed a camel toe in jeans, only leggings. Are you sure it's noticeable?

M00nknight · 21/07/2023 15:02

Thanks guy. I guess I just wanted some confirmation that people don't give a crap about that kinda thing so I can feel more comfortable

Lovehearts82 · 21/07/2023 15:03

I agree with others. It's possibly an issue that you are thinking is more of a problem than it is. If you have lost a lot of weight, is it more of a "Fupa" issue (fatty upper pubic area) this I could understand. I know you said you have tried other trouser and need an elastic waist, so have you tried those harem trousers? I think they are called. Very soft, shouldn't see any camel toe and comfortable elastic waist.

Easyontheeyes · 21/07/2023 15:04

Is it particularly prominent? Is it a weight issue eg where you carry your weight? Is it better since you lost weight?

LimeCheesecake · 21/07/2023 15:04

When you are out and about - do you see lots of other woman with the same problem or do they look fine? Because I think you are seeing an issue that’s not there, unless as others have said, you are pulling your clothes up too high (which might be the case if you consistently wear a size too big on your waist and so have to pull them up to stop falling down)

but if you aren’t able to get over this, go with dresses - there are lots of loose fit dresses on the market now, lots of empire line and t shirt dresses that aren’t fitted on the waist for comfort.

many skirts are available with elasticated waist bands that won’t be tight.

this does seem to be a problem purely for stretchy leggings and jeggings material clothes - which you prefer for comfort on the waist, but make you uncomfortable for appearance wise. So time to try other options.

Easyontheeyes · 21/07/2023 15:06

If you genuinely think you have a problem and it makes you so self-conscious, I would definitely wear dresses and skirts instead. You’re not comfortable in jeans so don’t wear them.

4weeknoalcohol · 21/07/2023 15:07

Choose black jeans and trousers.

Mary46 · 21/07/2023 15:08

Would have thought camel toe in tight leggings. Op maybe a dark denim would that help. No light colours

EvilElsa · 21/07/2023 15:11

I also think you need to find some alternatives to jeans. You say you are not comfortable in anything else, but you are clearly very uncomfortable in jeans too! There are clothes out there for you, it's finding what suits. Clothes that fit properly won't bunch around the crotch and properly fitting underwear or shape wear could play a big part. While I genuinely think that nobody else cares at all, I think it's important that you feel good about yourself so investing some time and money into looking at new styles and materials would be worth it.

JadeSeahorse · 21/07/2023 15:14

M00nknight forget the pant liners as these could cause irritation if you don't really need them for their purpose.

What you need is a Smooth Groove - just Google it!

I wear these inside swimsuits! Very hygienic and they work brilliantly. They are made exactly for the reason you need one.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 21/07/2023 15:18

I ordered (and returned!) a pair of jeans that gave me a camel toe - they were the weirdest cut. They weren't long enough in the seam at the front somehow, so when they were pulled up to where they should sit, and the bum fit properly, the seam on the crotch was cutting in to me. If I let them slip down so that wasn't happening, I looked like I was wearing a nappy from the back and they were in constant danger of falling down round my ankles. It was like whoever had designed them had never actually seen a human being...

Is it a v shape that's showing and they're sitting in the crease of your legs meeting your groin, or is it the centre seam that's a problem, showing a cleft? Are you sure they're not just pulled up too high?

ManateeFair · 21/07/2023 15:20

M00nknight · 21/07/2023 15:00

@SleepingStandingUp yes , I can clearly see it myself when I look in the mirror. It just makes me feel so disgustingly and abnormal

Your strength of feeling about this - feeling disgusting and abnormal, being convinced people are staring, letting it rule your life - makes me wonder if you have body dysmorphia.

Janieforever · 21/07/2023 16:33

I’m struggling why some posters are saying this must be in the ops head. I can assure folks camel toe is a thing it’s not imaginary. And yes it’s not seen as a positive for most women, weird leggings aside.

if the op says she has a problem with this then I’d urge people to be polite and believe her.

op, if your trousers are loose , but snug there, then the only other explanation is they are pulled up too high, so it’s either fit or how you wear them.

Saschka · 21/07/2023 17:35

@Janieforever it’s just really hard to get an actual camel toe (visible outline of the cleft between your labia) wearing jeans - the material is too thick. Obviously you can get a camel toe in leggings or swimwear as the material is much thinner. That’s why people are wondering if OP is being overly self-conscious about it.
