To expect cleaner conservatory windows/gutters?

We’ve just had a company round to clean all our windows, conservatory including roof, gutters etc using a water fed pole (for just over £200).

It’s the first time we’ve had this done since buying the place and to be fair they were quite dirty.

The man was here for about 4 hours. I was working so let him get on with it. I’ve just looked at everything and am a bit disappointed, but it’s the first time we’ve owned a house/conservatory so want to check AIBU before complaining.

I’ve attached some photos. There are also still some clumps of moss in the gutters, and lots of watermarks on the windows (this isn’t showing up in photos) - even though the company’s website says there won’t be any as pure water is used.

AIBU? Thanks!

My window cleaner charges £7 and does a brill job with a squeegee and bucket! £200 sounds excessive if you aren’t happy with the result.

That's such a lot of money. Our window cleaner charges £20 for exactly the same service, unless you accidentally pressed an extra 0? And he certainly isn't here for 4 hours, it really doesn't take that long.

Its the conservatory that ramps the price up - I think the quote for just windows was about £25.

When I google it, £200 does seem about the going rate - eg Checkatrade’s cost guide is £160 average for exterior conservatory cleaning (and we had normal windows etc on top).

I’m not really asking if the price is reasonable but if the result I was expecting is reasonable - should it just be generally cleaner or spotless / no water marks etc?

@ManchesterLu

You think a window cleaner can clean all windows, conservatory and conservatory roof on a first clean for £20 😂

Op, that is a poor job. You should complain. The price is fair but the job is not done properly.

Water marks will dry clear. Thats the whole purpose of pure water poles. My DH is a window cleaner - if they do leave a trace once dry, their filter levels need adjusting, in which case you can ask them to come back.

My advice is to wait until the water dries before complaining. We once had a customer bitch about her "windows being wet" when he left. When we asked her if they dried clear, she suddenly stopped moaning. If their are moments when the water does dry and leave residue, my DH always goes back to fix it and then checks his filtration levels in his tank.

My husband would probably charge not far off that. It would take him an hour to do all of the gutters, plus an hour/two hours on the conservatory alone plus windows - in which time he would have to postpone at least 8 other houses (averaging £20 each) to fit you in, so pricewise that's about right. your cleaner would have given you a quote beforehand for you to confirm and agree.

Also they have probably cleaned the actual gutters I.e. the plastic bits you can see, I wouldn't be expecting any window cleaner to clean out the inside of the gutters.....or is that me?

Lovingitallnow · 21/07/2023 14:50

I would only expect them to clear the gutters not clean them.

MangoMartini · 21/07/2023 16:00

Thanks all. I’ve emailed the company with some feedback. I think it’s actually the watermarks that bother me most (they have dried). Interestingly it’s only happened on one set of windows, the others are all fine. Put simply I think they might actually look dirtier now than before the cleaning! I think something might have gone wrong with the system or or something for those windows.

Also - re the gutters, yes I wasn’t expecting them to be clean as such but free of all chunkier bits of moss.

If the water marks have dried and left a mark perhaps suggest that he needs to check his filtration levels
