Hey, I'm wondering if I am BU here, slightly light hearted and would love some opinions as I cannot decide if I am BU or not.

I have the option to buy Taylor Swift tickets on the Ticketmaster site for £330 ish each so £660 for myself and my daughter. No hotel or transport needed as we live near the venue.
My husband has said it's ridiculous and it's way too much and she's only 7 ect.
The money is there and I did some overtime last week which will cover one ticket cost too but he's saying this is a stupid amount of money to spend for one night and at 7 our daughter won't enjoy it. However if I really want to go he'll drop/collect us.
He is basing his opinion on how he brought our older son to a football match at a similar age and he didn't enjoy it. Our son doesn't enjoy football anyway and also it was freezing cold that day. I'm wondering is he right?

This would be our daughters first concert and I'm paying a bit more for seats as opposed to standing for peace of mind. She loves music, singing dancing and dressing up and I thought it be a nice thing to do together.

His opinion is that with the same money we'd get a few nights away together. Looking for some thoughts please or if you brought a child of similar age to a concert how did you/they enjoy it? Thanks

Do it. Will be memories for you and your daughter forever

Tempone · 21/07/2023 01:49

I think those ticket prices are obscene and I would never pay that for one gig.

DailySnail · 21/07/2023 01:56

My mom brought us to a New Kids on the Block concert in another city when I was 8. It was so exciting and I've never forgotten it. I'm 41 now and can still remember the details. Definitely do it. Make a big deal of it.

Timwith2noses · 21/07/2023 02:26

I’m taking my soon to be 7 year old for a similar cost. In fact more as we only managed to get tickets for Vienna. Both she and 16 y/o sister are huge swifties and have talked about nothing else since tour was announced. I don’t doubt mine will love it. If you are sure she’ll enjoy it; why not?

DoAWheelie · 21/07/2023 02:28

If you can afford it, do it. Most of the good memories I have with my mother were us going to concerts. We'd make a day of it and explore the city during the day, watch the band in the evening, crash in a travel lodge and come back the next day.

We'd go a few times a year and always had great fun - I was about 8 when we started.

tabulahrasa · 21/07/2023 02:49

Depends how big a fan she is really (assuming you can afford it, obviously)

I’d pay that if they were the only ones left, for adults, but if your DD just likes music in general rather then Taylor tbh, I’d take her to something cheaper because she’d enjoy it just the same.

Also shes singing the explicit lyric versions in case that matters.

Unicorn2022 · 21/07/2023 04:50

For me it's not worth that much money to take a seven year old. I saw kids of a similar age at Beyoncé and Harry Styles looking bored and tired and constantly asking to go to the toilet, and Taylor's concert is probably an hour or two longer than theirs. Just to mention I know you said you would get her a seat for peace of mind, but you actually have to get her a seat as you aren't allowed standing tickets under 14.

icedlatte38 · 21/07/2023 04:59

@Unicorn2022 oh good call about the age thing I completely overlooked that one thank you.
Good to know about Beyoncé and Harry styles. The last few concerts I've been were more an older crowd so no kids really.

Tay Tay? Are you 10?

She's 7 she won't remember. Op is just using her dd as an excuse because she really wants to go. Mad. Also, Tay Tay? 🙄

PuttingDownRoots · 21/07/2023 05:29

Id take them on holiday with a spare £660 rather than them lasting one song and complaining its to loud/busy/hot etc

Of course she’ll remember! I saw The Spice Girls at that age and I still remember the coach ride, the outfits and dancing along to the songs now!

She’ll love it, OP. Do it!

anon3738 · 21/07/2023 05:35

Do it! Although it is a joke the package seats are right up in the nosebleeds, might be risky but I’d possibly hold out see if they put the price down to what they should be. I’m taking my daughter but she’ll be 14 so luckily managed to get standing.
have a look on tiktok at some of the Tay Tay concerts, all the little girls dressed up in sequins having the time of their lives.
also don’t forgot to start making friendship/bead bracelets to trade with other swifties. 😉 have the best time!

RonObvious · 21/07/2023 05:36

Took my daughter to see JoJo Siwa around that age (obviously not nearly as expensive) and she absolutely loved it. Definitely one of my favourite memories.

alittleadvicepls · 21/07/2023 05:47

If money is no issue, you want to go and so does DD, then go for it! I’m jealous! Love a bit of Tay Tay!

NorthWestThree · 21/07/2023 06:17

Fuck me it's a different world out there. £330 for a ticket to a concert? That makes me feel a bit ill.
No, I would never spend that on a concert. And I definitely wouldn't spend that on taking a 7yr old!!
The whole popular music industry is shit these days. I remember paying £7.50 to see Blur at Brixton 😁

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 21/07/2023 06:27

How will you feel if you spend the money and your DD spends half the concert complaining that she's too too hot, too tired and needs a wee?

WeWereInParis · 21/07/2023 06:27

She loves music, singing dancing and dressing up and I thought it be a nice thing to do together.

Does she specifically really love Taylor Swift?

This tour the shows are over three hours long - will she manage that?

I love Taylor Swift, but wouldn't spend that much on a ticket for myself, and definitely not for a 7 year old.

Ostryga · 21/07/2023 06:29

I took my 6 year old to see Harry Styles at Wembley and she loved every second of it. Worth every penny!

megletthesecond · 21/07/2023 06:33

She'll love it. Just make sure she's got ear defenders.
Football in the cold is a truly miserable experience. Taylor in the summer is the opposite.

Summer?
When?

😁😁😁

Unicorn2022 · 21/07/2023 09:04

If it was me I would wait until next year and check Ticketmaster and Twickets for face value resale tickets when the hype has died down. I would take a seven year old to a normally priced concert but I wouldn't spend £330 per ticket.

Also I've seen a lot of information about the VIP packages not being transferable or refundable even with insurance, and they were saying they send all the merchandise to your registered address and aim to get it there in time for the concert but no guarantees.

Itwasrare · 24/07/2023 13:00

YANBU for asking AIBU this question frankly, as you would always get flamed for what you spend, your choice in music, how you phrase your post etc.
Plenty of young Swifties being taken by their mums on tiktok and having a blast. Only you know if she's a 7 yo who will get fed up, bored etc or if she will enjoy it.
I took my DD similar age to Harry Styles and she loved it. She wasn't a fan before but we listened to the setlist plenty.
Yes you could wait to try to get cheaper tickets but if they have what you want I would just go for it. Then I'm biased - I think Taylor is great and I love live music and big tours. I feel they are well worth the money.
