Pay childcare so I don't have to work weekends

I currently work weekends so I can avoid paying childcare. It's just a job, I usually enjoy it and it's minimal stress.
I'm thinking of going back to my job prior to having children that I can do on a part time basis, but would mean paying about £200 in childcare a month.
What would you do?

I'd pay it. Weekends with your kids are precious

I’d absolutely pay for childcare - weekend tome with children/ family / friends is precious.

But it depends on how easy I is to find £200/ month?

PIeaseCreateAUsername · 20/07/2023 12:30

I'd pay it all day long to have the weekends with my kids.

Spanglybangles · 20/07/2023 12:30

I’d pay it 100%!! I work weekends as my OH works away during the week, and while we avoid paying for childcare, it’s shit for family life. He and I are virtually like ships passing, not good at all. We’ve done this for years and if I could work weekdays and only pay £200 a month for childcare, I’d grab it with both hands!!!

Also tax free childcare save 20%?

Personally I have always worked weekends and it's never bothered me at all ... presumably your DC are with their DF at weekends? My DC have a wonderful bond with their Dad as they spent so much time with him ... without me 'facilitating activities'. You also need to think about childcare during school holidays, if the DC are off school due to sickness etc.
Even though my DC are now grown up I still work weekends as I love time off in the week when it's so much quieter.

But that's just my choice and I understand not everyone feels the same.

£200 childcare is nothing compared to most childcare bills. I’d definitely go back to your old job.

Babyroobs · 20/07/2023 12:53

As others have said £200 is nothing, some people pay £2000 a month. I worked loads of weekends when my kids were little and do regret the missed time. Nowadays there is so much more help around than with childcare costs than there was 20 years ago.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/07/2023 13:29

Well how much will you take home?
£200 of £5000 is a different consideration to £200 out of £1000.

FantaLemon88 · 20/07/2023 21:36

I'll take home under £700 (£11.25ph)
