Is hybrid/remote work dying?

Posting for traffic.

I was looking for a new job and I didn’t want to work in an office full time nor did I want to work from home full time… I was surprised to see how many jobs are no longer remote/hybrid but full time in an office. Thankfully my new job is 3 days at home and 2 days in the office. What’s happened?

What’s the working dynamic like where you are? Are you back in the office full time?

@SpainToday have you had the contract changes to hybrid working and how many days?

Tangled123 · 01/10/2023 10:37

Used to be one day a week at home, they’ve now cut down to only 4 days a month and we can no longer WFH on Wednesdays. They can be flexible with it though if you need to work at home because of childcare etc.

@Tangled123 what did your company do during covid? There must be fighting back from the employees especially office workers and senior level? This week along our company has 3 resignations on the spot. And 2 got new jobs so reigned. Our company is Tech company so they can totally be flexible, and they are already hiring employees overseas. So whatever they are doing just seem not right. It would be easier if there were consultations period with the employees or votings, rather than just put up a policy and expecting everyone to follow it.

We are expected to be in the office at least 60% of the time. No set days, we are trusted to make local arrangements that work for us and our teams.

In person attendance to department meetings and team away days is now mandatory.

If you want anything different from the 60% you need to apply for a flexible working contract in the normal way.

Glad it’s not only me noticing this trend… my employer confirmed a few weeks ago via email they are committed to hybrid working as it increases productivity and it’s what most people work.

Personally I wouldn’t accept a job that was full time in the office (even with a pay increase) unless it was within a few miles away from my home

3 days in, 2 from home. It feels right for the business/industry I'm in. We need a certain amount of face to face time together to do job at a high level.

My employer fully embraced hybrid working. Sold off two buildings and poured the money into their one remaining building and now we have a lovely office to work from 2 days a week and 3 days from home.

Anyone new coming in has hybrid in their contract, and existing staff now follow the hybrid policy, which is 2 days in office 3 at home. Also, most of our former offices are gone, the new office will accommodate 40% occupancy

Tangled123 · 01/10/2023 17:16

@theholidaymum They did full time working from home during Covid but had gone back in the office before I started working there. My colleagues don’t seem bothered by the change though, some have their own agreements so aren’t affected and some hardly WFH anyway. My previous employer didn’t even let us WFH at all, so even 1 day a week is better than that.

I've worked full time at home for around 10 years. Since covid most departments at the company I work for have moved to hybrid working and they've moved to a smaller office.

DinnaeFashYersel · 01/10/2023 17:27

We tried hybrid but have now gone fully remote.

My DH has wfh for 10 years.

Echobelly · 01/10/2023 17:35

Not as far as I'm aware - but I suppose I can imagine businesses advertising new roles as ft hoping there are enough people needing the work to take it, and thus normalise office attendence. As far as I can tell, a lot of knowledge-type businesses like mine find 2-3 days a week works well enough and attracts good people, so they are sticking with it.

LuckOfTheDrawer · 01/10/2023 17:59

I recently started working fully remotely - I love it. My colleagues are a mixture of fully remote and hybrid.

Boska23 · 01/10/2023 18:14

Company is fully flexible. Most people are 100% remote, a handful goes into our significantly downsized office 1, max 2 times per week.
