To take DD out of swimming lessons?

DD (just turned 4) has recently completed Stage 1 swimming and is halfway through Stage 2. She's a really good swimmer for her age and can swim up to 20 metres without floats. However I think at the moment we are a bit stuck, as the Stage 3 classes are full of much older children and I am not sure the swim school manager will move her up when she's so young. Also, the price of lessons has increased to almost £200 for a block of 12 and that's really steep.

AIBU in taking her myself for the time being, when she is not physically big enough to perfect the strokes? I don't want to stop her enjoying what is obviously her big passion, but it seems a bit pointless atm (tell me if I am wrong!). The teacher keeps singing her praises but of course she's interested in keeping us on the list.

I will look at other cheaper swimming pools as well, but that means changing a teacher she really likes and finding a class that is compatible with my work schedule...

I would look into getting her into an amateur swimming club. She'll come on leaps and bounds and it's reasonably priced too.

I wouldn't stop the lessons entirely cos she might end up going backwards.

Swimming clubs won’t take them til they’re 5.

i’d take her out for the year, go yourself and practice water confidence. Unless you are a high standard swimmer yourself don’t attempt to teach her (you’ll ingrain bad habits) but have fun doing things like jumping in, retrieving toys from the bottom of the pool etc.

in the meantime get her on the waiting list for a club space.

Thank you @Dacadactyl. I thought swimming clubs are only for older kids (competitive swimming)? I will check this out :)

I feel ignored 😳 I answered your question before you asked it as well 😂

Oh I'm rubbish @Thisismynewusername1 , apologies I didn't mean to ignore you! We play plenty of water confidence games all the time. I take her swimming on my own every Sunday and then she spends a lot of time in the sea/pool when we go on holiday or visit my family abroad.
