Would it be terrible to take the day off?

I'm off to France and Spain for two weeks. I still have a lot to do (packing, washing, getting the house ready for the house sitter). My work load had basically doubled because I need to have a good chunk of workload done before I go away.

My wraparound childcare had bailed on me, so now I'm potentially looking at having my 3yo being with me for a couple of hours of my actual working hours.

I have a current cancer scare (with hospital appointment on Friday). I feel like I 100% don't have enough time to do it all.

BTW I would still work I just no will to face back to back meetings for 4+ hours.

I could also play stupid with nursery (as they haven't replied to my messages) and leave my 3yp for 40 extra mins (that would save the day) OR I ask my husband to help me for those 40mins which is silly and definitely a no-no.

See without sounding like a total bitch. Why aren’t you starting to pack now whilst you are on mumsnet?

Because I'm on a meeting! I'm still prepping my handover, so it's a bit of multitasking

I would use the meeting time (if I can't get out of them) to make packing lists and then make sure it's all washed between meetings.

Block out rest of diary for hand over stuff.

Well my advice is you have tonight and tomorrow night when the little one is in bed. Can you at least make a start then you won’t be so overwhelmed on Friday.

TeaKitten · 19/07/2023 17:32

You can pack in the evenings with your DH so don’t take time off for that. Do you have to phone in sick to miss the meetings?

You are entitled to unpaid dependent leave so you would not be unreasonable to use that.

That's for emergencies.

Packing for your holiday is not an emergency. No matter how it feels.

DinnaeFashYersel · 19/07/2023 17:52

The hospital appointment warrants a sick leave day.

WimbyAce · 19/07/2023 17:57

I think the thought of packing is always worse than it actually is so it shouldn't take long. Sounds like your husband needs to do more though, how is he helping with the holiday prep?

Lamelie · 19/07/2023 18:06

You sound completely overwhelmed.

@DinnaeFashYersel her childcare has let her down though.
