Hi guys, I'm writing in this group just so I can get a bit of a quicker response, I'm just wondering if anyone here has ever had a baby with a cows milk allergy, my daughter is 5 weeks today and has recently been showing all the signs of the allergy. Saw the go yesterday and he have switched formula to see what happens it was going well and yesterday she wasn't throwing up so much, but today she's all over the place again throwing up to much milk and agitated. She's annoying herself because she's hungry but it's not staying down.. should I be giving it more time or do I contact someone again. Never had any feeding issues with my first so this is kind of new territory. Thankyou

I’m no help about allergies I’m afraid and while it’s the most likely cause of your DD throwing up, my DS had something called pyloric stenosis which was causing him to bring up all his milk-huge amounts and he was struggling with the hunger too.

It’s not that common but I always talk about it when I see people with reflux/ pukey babies!! It does involve an operation to resolve it but it’s a very straightforward operation and he was out of hospital less than 24 hours after it and is now a totally healthy 3 year old!

Hopefully whatever your DDs issue is, it’s easily resolved and someone with more experience of allergy/reflux can offer some advice.

I also meant to say, my GP was very dismissive of my sons issues so I felt uncomfortable constantly going back but in hindsight, the poor fella was getting dehydrated and hungry etc -don’t be put off asking for more help-when they’re that small, fluids are so important.

My youngest has a CMPA and horrific reflux he brings loads back up but less since he was put on neocate. The nutramagin didn't agree with him either and after being referred and having tests done he has a dairy, egg and soya allergy.

He is also prescribed gaviscon which helps with reflux but if its milk not acid baby is bringing back up you may not need it. There's a thickner called carobel that you can get from gp to make the formula a bit thickner which may help it stay down so maybe try that? The standard try keep them still/upright after feeds, give a little then wind etc can help and always have lots of cloths on hand!

Usually when you change formula you mix some of the old stuff with the new and slowly transition to the new formula unless gp has said just switch over.

I'm sure you have but look up reflux...reflux and CMPA have similar symptoms.

1.check out paced feeding

  1. Keep burping baby every 15mls to 20 mls
  1. Look up the magic burp - life changing stuff

4 Keep baby upright for 20 to 30 mins after feeds

  1. Smaller feeds but nice often so feed every 2 -3 hrs rather than 4 etc

My LO has reflux and it's been a nightmare. Originally thought it was CMPA but had to do all of the above plus gas drops (infacol) before gp recommended formula change. Or diet changes. We are mixed feeding.

My DS was very refluxy and sicky. We tried hypoallergenic formula, but it didn’t really help. Once he was weaned he was fine with cows milk, so looking back it probably want CPMA in his case.

Nothing we did really helped unfortunately, we just had to wait for him to grow out of it.

It was a very difficult time though, so you have my sympathies.

I used to use the big muslins (swaddle sized) rather than the muslin squares.

If it’s CMPA it can take a few weeks for the symptoms to go and baby to settle on the new correct formula
