ADHD - renewing French Concerta prescription through NHS GP

My son is getting low on his Concerta. He was originally prescribed the drug by a psychiatrist here in France, but he has now moved to the UK.

If he takes his original prescription to his new GP- once he finds one who'll take him on -, can his new GP renew the prescription do you think, or will my son be required to go through the GP consultation - psychiatrist - diagnosis - prescription route from scratch?

I have seen conflicting takes on this online.

We may send him privately if it proves slow and difficult on the NHS. In which case, can he simply consult a private psychiatrist without passing by a GP first?

Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

It may depend on your GP which is probably why the conflicting advice. Our latest experience was they were happy to provide medication that he is already taking if they see proof of diagnosis and confirmation of prescribed meds. But if you need the meds adjusted/changed they won't do it and you can't access any other services or get the regular medication reviews as you would if you were under an ADHD service. And the waitlists are ages. It's a bit crap :(

Our current GP us excellent and really sympathetic as well so this may not always be the case. One GP told us ADHD didn't exist and prescribed anti-anxiety meds instead...

Thank you so much, singing! It's useful to hear. My son has anti-anxiety meds too which he takes as and when needed - quite rarely thankfully.

I will pass on the info about GPs... the proof of diagnosis may be complicated but he must have it somewhere!

Appreciate your time.
