To splash out on a tempur soft mattress?

Hi,

I'm pregnant and ordered a new Emma mattress for our new king size bed. Emma is bloody awful and killing my back (despite the "soft" mattress topper they went). Want to return it and replace it with a soft mattress. Hardly anything decent on the market. Tempur cloud is soft and is a little out of budget tbh but I can't do another night on that Emma and have had to resort to the sofa ... Help!

Do you know anybody with a tempur well enough that they would let you sleep over? I tried it in the shop and thought it was amazing but I find mine quite uncomfortable. I’ve persevered and it’s now OK but it’s not the dream mattress I thought I was getting. I can’t wait until I can justify the cost of a new mattress so I can get rid of it.
that said…. My friend thinks hers is the best thing in the world!

@JackyinaTracky which tempur do you have? Is it hard, medium or soft?

I tried the firm tempur at my sister in law's (it was ok) but I wanted the totally soft one.. I tried the three soft mattresses as dreams and Benson's and tempur cloud (soft) was the only one I liked. Dreams also suggested based on their assessment I get a soft one.

The only other option I can think of is to get a mattress from IKEA and try and find a super soft comfy topper ... I really need something super soft as I'm having to side sleep and it is something I'm really struggling with, especially on a firm mattress 😭

It's honestly taken me about 3 years to get used to my temper one. I've only persevered because it was so expensive. The soft ones you sink in and it's so hard to roll over when pregnant. I'm pregnant now and get stuck!!! I will say though I've never once woken up with back pain.

This is what I was going to suggest. I like a softer mattress. The IKEA Hyllestad mattress in firm was uncomfortable so I sent it back but the medium firm is perfect.

@turquoisediamond thanks for sharing your experience. which tempur do you have? Any chance you know the name? Is it a medium one or a soft one?

I'm at the stage where I don't mind if I don't roll over, I just don't want to wake up to excruciating pain in my side, hips and back. I can't believe the Emma has been so bad.

If you ever never tried one, I would be wary.
I find them very, very hot to sleep on.
Also, whilst you might not be contemplating it now, can you safely cosleep on a very soft mattress?

What about a topper on the current mattress?

GayPareeee · 19/07/2023 06:34

Don't do it, my mum did this as she has arthritis etc etc and hats it, she gets so hot and really struggles getting out of bed.

I have fibro and various pain/joint issues and have found a bog standard Ikea mattress with a Simba hybrid topper to be amazing. I'm overweight and can only side sleep and find it soft enough to take the pressure off, I've recently had surgery on my head and have been sleeping on the same side for weeks with no ill effects, AND it's much easier to get into and out of.

They always have a deal on and have a really good returns policy too. I promise I'm not on commission just so glad I found the answer for me

I would experiment with some mattress toppers first before going straight in with the tempur mattress.

We have a tempur one with pillows and it definitely does take some getting used to. My neck hurt the first few weeks with the pillows. We ended up buying a super soft topper from dreams to use until the mattress broke in a little.

Had it about a year now and it is soooo comfortable. Definitely worth the money in the long run.

A Tempur mattress is unbelievably hot to sleep on, in a heatwave I feel like I’m sleeping on a radiator! In winter though it is lovely as it warms quickly.
If you do get one then make sure you get a cooling topper too.
