At what point do they let you know if your journey is affected? Currently it says likely to be affected but doesn't say anything else. I've tickets booked to London from Manchester for an event and it now looks like we might not be able to go. Likely isn't good enough, I need to know so I can rearrange if need be. Does anyone know how these things go?

I had tickets booked for Cambridge a couple of weeks ago and I got an email saying my train was no longer running.

That was probably a couple of weeks before.

Yellowlegobrick · 18/07/2023 07:12

I think typically they avoid committing to what will/won't run as they want to put people off travelling.

Their aim is for you to choose to not travel due to uncertainty and thus hit train operating company revenue.

I commute into London and we've gone from four trains per hour to one or two. There are still trains running but to a different schedule and with late cancellations.

Can you be flexible about the time you travel?

AutisticLegoLover · 18/07/2023 07:21

I have time specific tickets and if we travel later we don't get to Legoland in time. I don't drive so no alternatives. We've missed out on so much already due to strikes in recent holidays.

Probably worth ringing Legoland to see if they'd be flexible in circumstances as they probably already know their figures of people attending may be hit that week.

Likewise could ask the rail company if you're permitted to travel on an earlier train(later is always fine in the circumstances but no use for you obviously). Then go earlier and hopefully get on the first possible one if they permit you

AutisticLegoLover · 18/07/2023 07:41

The earlier train is at 5.15am so that would be hard going but doable I suppose. It's the first train of the day. Getting home might be tricky too. Nightmare.

Our company update journey planners the week before usually.

We aren't working overtime this week and yesterday the service didn't seem much different.

Depends on the train operating company and how reliant they are on drivers working their days off, as to how much the service is affected.

AutisticLegoLover · 18/07/2023 15:10

The ticket office has pointed out that there's no overtone this week but everything is running ok so fingers crossed.

You should be able to travel on an earlier train, even with a time specific ticket, if your journey has been affected by industrial action.
