Double trundle bed

Evening all. So.my kids have a bunch bed, double at the bottom single at the top. In hindsight I wish I bought a double over a double but we didn't due to cost.

My 8 year old is complaining the single is too small. But his brother is 2 years older and very tall. Already up to my nose and I'm 5ft 6. So swapping isn't going to happen. I can't afford to replace the bed. No more rooms for them to split up and have a bigger bed. However I suggested we find a double trundle that can be pushed under the double.
However I can't find.one anywhere! Single trundles galore.

Can anyone advise where to find one or if they even exist? Or if anyone can think of an alternative please? He lines cushions and cuddly toys along the side as he claims.he keeps hitting them. He doesn't
He's quite small and a single is fine.. but he will grow eventually so will cross this bridge in a couple of years.

How tall is he expected to be? DS didn't move into a double until 16 and 5ft 10.

I wouldn't rule out swapping for a while if his brother agrees to it.

Well that's the think. He won't really need a double. But he's jealous of his brother. It's not an emergency. But I'm just trying to appease him. Not necessarily now but maybe in a year. I had a single until I moved out at 18. Ds1 will be quite tall. Easily 6 ft plus by the time he's finished growing. Ds 2 (kid in question) is smallish but dh says he is identical to him at that age and he had a growth spurt as a teen and is now 5ft. But we have a huge mix of short and tall ok both our sides so it's a guessing game really!

Yeah his brother shut him down and said no. So I said, if he says no then it's no. Older one also doesn't like heights so I'm not pushing it

This sounds more if a jealousy thing. A single bed won’t be too small for an 8 year old.
Could they swap one night a week to make it a little more fair?

Holidaystress11 · 16/07/2023 22:45

It's probably jealousy to be fair. But he gets what he wants most of the time. More than his brother but that's because he asks and his brother doesn't and isn't that bothered with wanting things. Chalk and cheese really.

Will just stick to my guns and say not yet until he's older.

@24252627a I agree. He has the personality of always feeling hard done by and stubborn. Dh was the same. He grew out of it at about 12 according to MIL. Hoping its the same! He isn't spoilt but he does like to mope about and complain.

I don’t understand - are you looking for a double sized trundle bed that can fit under a double bed? And if so, you’d have to have space for two doubles side by side in the room to actually use it, and enough floor space to have room for it to roll out? So wouldn’t you just have two double beds side by side? It would be a giant faff to roll it away underneath each night. If he wants to sleep on the floor sometimes he can have a blow up mattress? But I’d be inclined as you’re doing to say “sorry no space, you’re smaller for now so you have the single”.

Get a new double bunk when the time comes?

Holidaystress11 · 16/07/2023 22:55

True. I was just looking at options. We have space to have them next to each other but I don't want a bed there all the time as there wouldn't be room to move around so one that's slides under would be ideal.

I will just say no for now. I was just asking if they exist at that size. If they don't then they don't.

As I said. Will just stick to my guns and say no.

Why not buy a lightweight double mattress and just slide it under the bed / sometimes against the wall to air? If he's 8 I don't think no frame would be an issue. get a cheap one to trial it?

Good idea. Thanks all
