To ask for 5 hours of leave

My manager made a mistake with my holiday allocation which meant I was given 5 hours less than was entitled last year.
I asked him to let me take an additional 5 hours of leave this month to compensate for the reduced hours from last year.
He rolled his eyes and tried to discourage me because he’d need to get HR involved.

wouldnyou pursue the 5 hours? I am doubled minded now, due to his initial reactions

Without a doubt - or they can pay you

Yes I would go to HR. Sod the hassle he'll have.

If you took 5 more hours than you were entitled to they'd want it back. I'd be taking the 5 hours.

Exactly.

Of course - that’s more than half a day

Perhaps your manager can do your job for give hours free instead of you if they refuse you your legally set time off.

It is an automated system? Surely it’s HR’s mistake?

And yes, I would say HR probably fixes those kinds of mistakes all the time.

Very odd that he would be keen to fix such a small clerical error

I would and can't see any reason why you shouldn't. If it's that much of a hassle for him to do it properly then he can just let you take 5 hours and not put it through the system.
