Can anyone suggest a reliable small car? And recommend a trusted second-hand dealership

Oh I misread. I thought it said 'cat' not 'car'. Peugeot?

JobMatch3000 · 16/07/2023 02:39

Ford Fiesta
Toyota Aygo
Hyundai i10

The big car dealerships, Arnold Clark and Peter Vardy will have a decent range.

Can't help on the dealership (I'm in Australia) but I thoroughly recommend a Toyota Corolla (just not the 2000-2003 years, apparently they weren't good). Mine's a 2004 hatchback I've had a year, lovely zippy little car, good mileage, no problems with it. Only the second car I've owned. It's surprisingly roomy - I can fit a wheelchair and a walker in the back (ie at the same time) when the seats are folded down.

I had really good customer service from Kia recently
I love my Picanto but there are many others if that doesn't tick your boxes

Our golf hybrid is pretty good

Have a 07 Fabia with almost 100k on it! Still runs like a dream and is cheap to run too!

If you want dealership ideas, you're going to have to specify a general location - not much use givibg south east ones if you're in Scotland! 😉

DownNative · 16/07/2023 12:38

Vauxhall Corsa and Astra are both good. The Corsa is smaller than the Astra.

Yes, you're right about my location, I didn't think about that 😂 thank you!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to look at a few. Seen some good deals on kias too

Do not get a Peugeot, everyone I know who’s had one has had nothing but issues.

Golf would be my choice to be honest, but corsa’s seem to be a very popular choice as well.

Bit left field but Dacia are pretty reliable just not considered fancy. They’re cheap to buy and run in general.

My mechanic said that when choosing a car, think about replacement parts and engine longevity. Here in Aus, Jeep replacement parts are super expensive and take a LOOOONG time to come from USA. European brands also cost a lot to service and run and are a lot less reliable here due to different climate. Parts take a looooong time to arrive and are heavily taxed. Japanese brands offer better accessibility re parts and their engines go forever. Hyundai less so re engines, but they’re still great. Toyotas & Suzuki offer the best reliability, availability of parts and longevity of engine. (Here….)

Golf, Yaris, Fiat 500, Fiesta, Polo.

Just bought a kia picanto, 1 year old. Cute little thing. Over the moon! Thanks for your recommendations!

If you're looking for reliability, your best chance statistically is Japanese, then Korean. All else may involve some luck but the Japanese are consistently at the top.
