Losing teeth/False teeth anyone??

Chances are I will lose my teeth earlier than most.

Does anyone have false teeth and what are they like?

I'm petrified and unfortunately can't afford implants.

The main downside is not being able to eat certain foods when out eg I couldn't get a burger on a Christmas food stall. Roast dinners are ok, as are curries. If eating at someone's house, even a sandwich can be difficult. If you are suffering from nausea, or have flu, they can be hard to tolerate.

Surely you won't lose all at once...

I have a partial plate for 3 missing top teeth. The first one I had was more of a pain as the dentist didn't take the time to ensure it fitted correctly.

The second one (one I'm using currently) is no bother at all, I forget it's in and can eat with it fine. More have a plate than you think.

How old are you and what makes you think you'll lost teeth early?

Just to reiterate it causes me no pr9blems at all, but I do avoid sweets a d hard things like nuts. Not because of the plate but because I don't.want to lose any more teeth!

I had a temporary partial plate for about 9 months while I was waiting to have my implant done. (Pandemic intervened so the waiting time was longer than expected.)

TBH it wasn't as bad as I expected. Mine fitted quite well and I could eat most things. I avoided things like apples or anything with pulling power, like toffees. But within 2 to 3 weeks I was able to cope confidently with a special multi-course meal that had been arranged months before.

I was even able to do a lot of other things I thought would be difficult, like playing the trombone.

I must be honest though and say I am glad that is behind me and I finally got the implant.

Why do you think you will lose them early? How many and all at once or singly? If it is likely to be one just every few years could you save up for implants for the ones that show?

I have had quite a few issues with my teeth over the years and a few are quite wobbly now. I visit the dentist regularly and my hygiene is good, but it may be genetics and they've been honest that ill probably lose some or a lot of my teeth earlier than most. I have had a few extractions already toward the back. I wonder if more people have partial plates than I thought, but I feel quite worried about looking ridiculous!

Thanks to too many sweets when younger (I'm now 68) I have no teeth at all in my upper jaw and only five teeth in the bottom jaw; I therefore have a complete upper denture plate and a partial lower denture plate. Admittedly implants are expensive and they don't last forever, and not everyone can get on with dentures, but a good dentist takes lots of measurements to make sure your dentures are a good fit, My dentures cost me close on £2,000 but I had to go private to get these made .
I opted to have my few remaining upper teeth removed as they were cracked, broken as well as being VERY unsightly, to the extent that I was reluctant to smile 🙁 and people were starting to comment on ,my ugly teeth. OK so I had to look like a toothless old crone while my gums healed from all the extractions I had to have done and I could only eat soft foods for a while, but once I got my new dentures I was soon able to eat normal foods again.
If you're not sure that your dentures will remain securely in place despite them being properly made, the use of a denture fixative such as Polygrip or Fixadent solves that problem, and I make sure to include a tube of fixative on my weekly grocery shopping list.
Now that I have a set of decent-looking teeth I'm not embarrassed to be seen out and about in public. Having splashed out a lot of money on my new teeth, I'm confident I'll also save a lot on dentist's bills in the future because apart from occasional checkups to check the fit I won't have to keep on paying out to have my teeth drilled & filled which I've always found to be an extremely painful process.
