Husband and daytime sleepiness

My husband is always falling asleep! He thinks he's normal, I think it's weird

  • If we have a busy day (aka normal family day) he falls asleep as soon as his bum hits sofa. Today we went to a fete and he fell asleep as soon as we get home. He becomes very drowsy and relaxed then just goes to sleep. He's hard to wake up too, we have 3 kids running round and he's fast asleep!

-if he's a passenger in a train or car he sleeps within minutes, even if it's not appropriate

-if we are anywhere warm and comfy sofas, he's drowsy and falls asleep easily. Eg round my parents house or his grandparents

  • driving often triggers a migraine and fatigue afterwards
  • he does suffer awful migraines. These tend to be well controlled with medication but when they come they cripple him. He once went to a friends party and has one and slept in a friends bed from about 1pm to 9pm to sleep it off!
  • he does snore and has a blood vessel in his nose that obstructs his nasal breathing. It's been fixed once before but is back.
  • we have older kids and they sleep through the night (sometimes come in our bed, but we are far from the baby stage)

-he does have a partly active job (full time)

  • he often complains of feeling shaky at end of day and needs a chocolate fix to feel normal. He's been tested for diabetes all good. And thyroid too.
  • He sleeps from around midnight to 7:30am (longer at weekend)

I'm not sure all this is normal. He says he feels normal! Honestly I'm wondering about narcolepsy or sleep apnea

AIBU? He's got something up?

Thing is if they can do their paid job and it's just home life that they sleep through then isn't it learnt behaviour?

It's his diet. You say he eats mcds and fizzy pop. Does he get any decent nutrients. Any fresh veg and protein? Not processed protein. While he waits for the bloods he should give some proper vits a go.

Sleep apnea sounds like a possibility. Apparently there is an app that measures snoring and apnea.
Does he get up to pee multiple times at night?

Do you know what your DH said at the doctors?

He would have got a very different response from 'I feel tired all the time and have no energy ' to 'I keep falling asleep and my snoring is driving my wife crazy'

I think going to bed at midnight is too late, definitely start getting to bed for 10pm and you will see a difference, if he needs 8hrs he's just making it up during the day. If I went to be 12-7am I'd be tired too !

I get 8 hrs at night but still feel the need to nap in the afternoon!
