to expect DP to make an effort for our wedding?

DF and I are planning our wedding. I have spent endless hours browsing shops, magazines, internet for ideas and inspiration for our big day and my dress. My mother and I are even going to London for the day to check out some of their wedding shops.

When questioned DF about his plans for his wedding suit, he replied "It's OK, ive got a suit jacket from Tesco* in my wardrobe, i'll just were that with my black trousers and a shirt"

He told me he doesn't need to wear expensive clothing to our wedding to prove he loves me. He said he loves me unconditionally and doesn't need a brand new suit to prove that. Fair point BUT STIL.....!!

I told him he better buy a new bloody suit otherwise i shan't be at the wedding.

Am IBU to expect him to make at least a BIT of a feeking effort?!

(*which he bought for 20 quid to go to a work colleagues wedding)

lol Chequers. My mum would have been in heaven - she was disappointed that I had some ideas of my own...

doggiesayswoof - of course a lot of it is how i feel, i openly admitt i am looking forward to lapping up the attention on the big day, but at the same time i was to make him gasp when he first sees me, such a change from how he sees me every day - manky jeans, coverd in baby sick, my toddlers snot, pale faced, run down with messy hair and bags under my eyes...you get the idea!

I dunno, i just guess i want the day to be REALLY special, for both of us to look wonderfully smart and glam, before going back to our usual daily mankiness. Is that so unreasonable?! (bit of a rhetorical question there lol)

No YANBU to want that at all. But I think most men (obv sweeping generalisation) don't have the same feelings about getting dressed up and playing a part for the day - the focus will be on you anyway, not him.

(I would draw the line at the Tesco suit jacket and non-matching trousers btw - I was playing devil's avocado a wee bit)

I hope you get him sorted and have a lovely day.

My DH was equally clueless... I hired him a suit, and the Best mans.

BBH I think that the perfect dress is important, far more so then his suit as everyone looks at the bride.

I think best thing to do is tell him what time and where the wedding is, go buy him a suit tell him to put it on and turn up.

Blokes just don't get the wedding think.

I followed anything to do with the wedding with a visit to the pub- eg. shop for dress, then go for cocktails; go to florist, then go for cocktails...etc etc!! Made it all a lot more bearable!! I organised the whole thing myself, but didn't agonise over details- my dress was the 3rd one I tried on, I couldn't really be bothered trailing about, as they were all nice enough!! Dh was lucky- he is in the navy and was away for most of the planning stage. He doesn't own a suit, so he was dispatched to hire a kilt one day (with the promise of the pub afterwards!) I think I would not be too happy with the tesco outfit, and would at least suggest hiring something- use the excuse that he and best man need to match- and offer them booze as incentive!

im in the same situation as you we are getting married in july and my other half is still yet to show an interest. he drives me mad

the only thing he is showing an interest in is the first dance and he is being stubborn about that (he wont let me have the song i love)

oh and also he looks like a paraplegic when he dances... lol

I'm afraid I'm in your dp's camp on this one. I didn't even wear a dress to my wedding and dh already had a suit so ... (mind you, it wasn't a 20 quid one from Tescos).

Men, in general, are not interested in weddings. Therefore if you want him in a smart suit, you'll need to either buy one for him or tell him to buy one.

For getting positive feedback about stuff like the flowers or the favours or whatever, you need to look to your female relatives and girlfriends.

Hope you have a lovely day!
