Am I BU to think this is a health and safety nightmare?

Got a message last night on fb marketplace about a working electric kettle I was selling:

"Hi, if this doesnt go would u be willing to donate to my preschool, trying to make a realistic home play area for the kids. Thanks."

Fully prepared to be told I'm being overly cautious, but surely a kettle in a playschool setting as a toy is a H&S nightmare? Not least because it might encourage very young kids to play with appliances and if they emulated at home could get seriously hurt?

(Fwiw, I told them I wasn't willing to do it what they were asking.)

I'd assume they are just making up any old excuse to get free stuff.

that did cross my mind, but why not just say," hey I'm really struggling, would you give this for less/free"

Because they probably do it so often that they've worked out what the best things to say are to get free stuff but they've got it wrong this time.

This is pretty common practise in nurseries, pre schools and school nursery classes. They aren't usually plugged in. Cords are usually removed and made safe.

In the pre school Ianage we have a microwave, kettle, and toaster.

I don't know, kids like to role play with all sorts of stuff. DD's nursery has tea pots, a little hob and pans, toy knives for pretending to chop food, etc. At home we have a full toy kitchen with an oven, hob, microwave, toaster, loads of tea stuff, also a pretend lawnmower, all sorts of stuff a child wouldn't use by themselves. No preschool child should be easily able to reach a hot kettle anyway IMO and certainly my DD knows the difference between playing with toys and trying to cook herself a meal on our own hob.

I'd presume they would just use the jug part not plug it in!!

LemonsOnTheMelons · 15/07/2023 11:35

Do you not have kids? Confused Toddlers love to roleplay with kitchen appliances!

Mumtothreegirlies · 15/07/2023 11:39

Well obviously it wouldn’t be plugged in and they would even probably remove the cord.
do you honestly think they meant that the kids would be boiling water with it??

MissPop · 15/07/2023 11:41

It’s fine the plug will be removed.
