Aibu to ask for help - we’re unexpectedly in Falmouth for the weekend. Two children age 11 and 13. Please give me suggestions for where to go? We like quiet beaches, great cafes (with parking!) and museums! Thank you!!!

I love coverack near Helston

BellaJuno · 14/07/2023 20:11

Pendennis castle is worth a visit.

EpsilonMaltravers · 14/07/2023 20:11

Gylly beach is great. Car park nearby and a lovely beach cafe

nobodygoesdowninthejungle · 14/07/2023 20:15

Via Ferrata is brilliant if they like things like Go Ape

Usertumster · 14/07/2023 20:16

I love you all. Great ideas.

If you dont mind walking and hills... Get the ferry to St Mawes then the passenger ferry to Place. Walk around St Anthony Head - if you're up for a bit of clambering over rocks you can get down to Little and Great Molunan beaches. If you go further on, you'll see the Fraggle Rock lighthouse and can go up to the NT St Anthony Head old battery from WWII.

Or just the ferry to St Mawes and go to the castle.

Or drive round via the King Harry Ferry and head to Carne/Pendower beaches (parking easier the Carne end).

Coverack is beautiful, be sure to take a walk along to Coastguard cottages, stunning!

Lizard point is a nice walk, so too is Kynance Cove although it might be busy if you’ve got good weather.

FrivolousTreeDuck · 14/07/2023 20:26

Another vote for Coverack.

HappiDaze · 14/07/2023 20:27

Kynance cove and Lizards point are stunning so visit them even if they're too busy for you to stay

transformandriseup · 14/07/2023 20:34

As others have said some great walks. Trelissick gardens is lovely and you can walk down to the beach without paying to see the house. There is also a pirates exhibition on at the maritime museum. Sadly the swimming pool had now closed.

From Falmouth you can catch the train to Truro. It's a short journey through lovely country and Truro is a bustly little city full of cafes, shops and things to do.

Usertumster · 14/07/2023 21:54

All brilliant. Thank you.

Another vote for Trebah Gardens - one of my favourite places.

Also love Coverack, Cadgwith Goonhilly Earth Station and Gweek Seal Sanctuary. Church Cove, Pandora Inn at Restronguet Passage and Trengilly Wartha at Constantine.

BorneoBound · 14/07/2023 22:15

Seal sanctuary at Gweek

Trebah is lovely.

Coverack is charming - I had a great stay at the YH there.

Weather aside, there are some sea based activities: https://www.facebook.com/OrcaSeaSafaris/ & kayaking etc on Swanpool beach.

There is a pottery painting shop halfway up the old High Street.
