Just that really! I've got a flabby tummy anyway and I'm sure it'll be worse now after pregnancy, so can I ask for a tummy tuck whilst they're stitching me back up?

When i had my 5th section the consultant I saw at my 36 w appt saw my previous 4 scars and told me he would make sure they cut them and made it into just one scar again as ‘it’s a mess!’ And on the day they said they’d done that plus ‘pulled it all in a little’ it was amazing afterwards I didn’t have the overhang just a totally flat stomach again after a few weeks (but then I had more babies and the surgeons didn’t do the same !!)

My consultant did this for my second, is it not standard practice to make it as neat as possible? I did go private but the consultant also worked on the NHS and he made it sound like it was basic stuff.

And I’m curious, do you mind me asking how many sections you’ve had?

I had a cesarean with first baby. Small scar in the end . Lots of pain for the first few days and then sore/ weirdly numb but painful for a long time. Lots of layers to knit back together. Weeing/ coughing was very painful for a while. My hairdresser had a tummy tuck when ger child was 6. Huge scar. Huge. Done in a different place to the usual place for an elective cesarean scar. She had to wear compression garments for weeks . Like spanx but so much tighter. She had to buy 2 pairs to allow for washing. Not allowed to stand for long periods. She wasn't actually able to stand even if she had wanted to. She showed me pictures of herself in the compression garments. I cannot imagine looking after a newborn I had given birth to whilst dealing with the recovery from such massive surgery.

Someone in my NCT group joked about going home to have the baby so she could have tummy tuck and section at same time. I think she was from Thailand but it was a while ago.

How many sections have you had?!

6

stayclosetoyourself · 14/07/2023 20:59

Well let's see now, is a plastic surgeon doing your section? And have you got her/ him on WhatsApp to ask ???

Diversion · 14/07/2023 20:59

On my 4th section they gave me a 1cm tummy tuck only because they removed the bumpy scar from the previous 3 to make it neater. I did ask them to take a bit more, unfortunately that was not possible.

Lovesgreen · 14/07/2023 21:00

Do you actually understand what's involved in a tummy tuck? My friend was in the most pain she has ever been in and had to lay down for weeks. You think you can manage a newborn in that state?

This is basically what they did to me , cut the old scars out and pulled it all a bit tighter so not a tummy tuck just a really good neaten up!!

I was private too, but NHS for the birth.

I'm guessing Sevenbabies may have had 6 or 7 c/sections?

That wasn't my experience.

whatfreshheck · 14/07/2023 21:08

Don't be daft. Your obstetrician isn't a plastic surgeon.

I have had two sections, back in the old days when only the longitudinal or classical incision was made.
I only have one scar, apparently I was opened up along the previous one, baby taken out, them restitched.
It looks awful though, much worse than the first one.As it goes right down the middle of my tummy it is like a big dip and does not fade.
It was the last time though as the tubal tie was done as well.

FastBlueHedgehog · 14/07/2023 21:18

I asked when I was being stitched up after my 2nd section as a joke and the surgeon got really arsey with me 🤣

Vettrianofan · 14/07/2023 21:19

The jokers are out tonight.

Sceptre86 · 14/07/2023 21:24

You are getting a hard time of it which is unnecessary. I would have liked one after I had dd2. Unfortunately it takes time for the uterus to shrink back to size so my understanding is you would have to wait some time after to get it done.

Thatladdo · 14/07/2023 22:16

You can ask for steak and chips, you wont get that either 😆

I'm assuming 7?

Moveoverdarlin · 14/07/2023 22:24

Yeah and while your getting advice from the midwife about breastfeeding ask her if she’s got any silicone implants in her bag and see if she can give you a tit job while she’s at it.

Sevenbabies · 14/07/2023 22:25

Mamai90 · 14/07/2023 22:21

I’ve had 6 (had 5 then baby 6 was very prem and quite literally fell out 😳, baby 7 was a c section )

xyz111 · 14/07/2023 22:29

This is a joke right?? A consultant delivering your baby isn't a plastic surgeon, skilled in everything 🤦🏻‍♀️

Madamecastafiore · 14/07/2023 22:34

I've had both a C-section and a tummy tuck and was getting out of bed with both after the anaesthetic wore off on my own, give him his due the surgeon was horrified that I'd just got up and not rung for a nurse after the tummy tuck but it's really not that hideous. It's actually far less hideous than a c section.

My neighbours DIL had her fourth child by c section privately and had a tuck at the same time.

Madamecastafiore · 14/07/2023 22:36

If you pay enough the obstetrician can do the sewing up of the uterus and then the plastics guy can pop in and do the tummy tuck, you don't need a Jack of all trades.

SweetSakura · 14/07/2023 22:36

Go for it. Why not ask for breast implants at the same time?

MrsElsa · 14/07/2023 22:37

Watch Botched (free on Prime now) and you can get the explanation from the surgeons directly!

The tummy tuck wound is enormous compared to the c section incision.. be out of your mind trying to heal from that while caring for a newborn.

The celebs who have it done def have nannies ...
