WIBU to tell DP to suck it up buttercup?

First of all we are finally getting married after 14 years. I honestly had given up all hope of ever seeing a ring on my finger.

Now in the planning process. We are keeping it small and simple as we don't want a big fuss. Close family at registry office then party with close friends and family.

WIBU to tell dp that I don't care if he wants real supermarket flowers on the day to decorate, I am ordering the artificial ones? Firstly less expensive than florist, secondly I will not spend the day sneezing, thirdly the centre pieces can be gifted at the end and finally I will be able to guarantee the colours we want which I cannot do in tesco on a Friday morning the day before our wedding next August. Not to mention saves me spending hours creating something that will look like my 4 year old niece put it together.

For context, his chose the registry office, reception venue, reduced the guests I would have liked at the wedding. He chose the catering options. Now because his got an icecream van coming he doesn't want a wedding cake.

So AIBU to accidentally order flowers and a cake? Images to show the flowers I am looking at. Colours can be changed or should I run whilst I still can? Although years of house training has been carried out. Aside from this, his a keeper.

Have cake and flowers op, go mad and treat yourself, after all it's your day too and hopefully it will be the only time you will have to make the decision.
There are some gorgeous artificial flowers out there. I had an artificial bouquet, which my daughter used for her wedding and it still looked fab.
Congratulations and your man sounds like a good egg.

What about dried flowers??

A friend used this company and they're utterly stunning https://hiddenbotanicsweddings.com/

I would go real flowers from a florist

CallieQ · 17/07/2023 09:58

And cake!

PurplePens · 17/07/2023 10:18

@CallieQ she can't have real flowers as she's allergic. Cake though... definitely 🍰

You've got to have cake! It just wouldn't be a proper wedding otherwise! I didn't even know I felt this strongly about it, but turns out I do (maybe it's because I don't like icecream!).

It's your day too - get the goddam flowers and cake!

Have you considered paper flowers? There are numerous vendors online & Etsy.

I find them more charming than the traditional faux blooms in your photos.

Personally, I don't think fake flowers look that good. But if you have an allergy/hay fever, I can understand not wanting real flowers. One of my friends had a beautiful bouquet where all the 'roses' were made from the pages of one of her favourite novels. It looked really impressive, fit their laid-back style of wedding and gave her something meaningful that will last forever. Could something like that be an option?

But why? The OP says that real flowers will make her sneeze and be puffy eyed all day. Why would you want that?

inloveonholiday · 17/07/2023 15:43

I did both.

Ordered artificial flowers for decoration very early as I'm extremely fussy and wanted them to look real.

Then I topped up the display with water and added in fresh flowers I'd bought 48 hours earlier. Morrisons was the best and they kept the things back for me to collect.

It worked perfectly. The smell fooled everyone who didn't realise they were a mix.

I gave away lots of my faux flowers and crystal vases afterwards.

I can highly recommend

https://sarahsflowers.co.uk/

For bouquets & button holes. We had sunflowers with white roses and thistles they were gorgeous. We got some artificial sunflowers in clear vases from rhe range & b&m and put them on tables We didn't have like big foliage thing but honestly Sarah's flowers were brilliant.

As for a cake we used a local Baker and asked for a 2 tier rustic type cake didn't mention wedding and paid up front then said it was for a wedding and it was delivered to the venue on the day or we could have got it the day before. We added some sunflowers and a topper Choc sponge on bottom and Victoria on top doesn't have to be a "wedding cake"
