Not sure you can diagnose diastatis recti via photos? Isn’t it by feeling the muscles?
i also gained 4 stone in pregnancy so know how you feel. I’ve managed to shed 3.5 but it’s been hard and my body not the same as it was

It’s hard to say from photos - but mine is quite severe and you can almost see a “split” down the middle of mine. Like the parting of the Red Sea 🙈😆 Personally I’ve given up worrying about mine (dc aged 20 and 11 and it’s never improved no matter what I do.

I had (have) fairly significant diastasis recti and managed to improve it from a 4 finger gap to a 1-2 finger gap by doing pilates with a women's health physiotherapist.

Unfortunately from your photo it's just not possible to tell. The only way I could see it on myself was to lie on my back and start to do a sit up, my tummy muscles looked really pointed upwards in the middle, like the profile of a volcano, but this type of exercise isn't recommended if you do have diastasis recti as it can make it worse, only as part of the assessment.

Fine a good women's health physio and get an assessment done if you think you do have this, then find a pilates teacher who's qualified to teach postnatally. Even better if you find soneone hmwho can tock both boxes. If you have diastasis recti it's never too late to start to fix it if you have the right teacher.

If you live in the Guildford area Georgia McCarthy is amazing.

This is what mine looks like when I do a sit up - it basically domes as the muscles aren’t in the right place. I’ve been trying for months to correct it but it’s not got much better - in fact I think it’s worse as it seems to go all the way up now 🙄

Thanks for all the comments, it's awful especially seeing girls who just had babies and their stomachs are so flat 😭😭

Don’t do sit ups if you have this. It will make it worse. I’ve actually given myself a hernia because I didn’t know this and did sit ups as part of a gym programme - the personal trainer was well recommended but just obviously didn’t understand DR!

Hariboislife · 14/07/2023 09:20

Don’t worry, this was just to show it. I’m working with my gym instructors to modify workouts so I don’t do any abs.

The girls who have flat tummies after babies are just that - girls. They are also very far and few between. Don’t compare yourself to them as it will make you miserable. Nobody else is focused on your tummy like you are - everyone’s focused on their own hang ups.
