2 adults with a teenager aged 16

Looking for more quirky and engaging things as opposed to the usual tourist traps

We've done Dennis Severs house, the Kusama exhibition (just me and DH - DS would have been bored stiff! ) and we watched Witness for the prosecution at the Jury House

Now I'm out of ideas. So PLEASE could anyone suggest some cool and fun ideas for me? Happy to consider anything but not London eye, stately homes, museums,'madam Tussaud's etc as done them all!

Thank you!

Cable car return trip then uber boat

DramaAlpaca · 13/07/2023 21:49

Ooh, timely thread! Off to London is a couple of weeks so placemarking for ideas.

I loved the grounds and basement floor of the Horniman Museum.

onlyamam · 13/07/2023 21:58

This is a fun little museum and very interactive novelty-automation.com/
They're all mad automated machines you can play with.

The Globe also used to do really cheap 'groundling' tickets if you want to see some Shakespeare. You have to stand, but it's very immersive.

lifesize monopoly! It’s great!

granstable · 13/07/2023 22:02

Another museum I'm afraid - the London Museum of Water and Steam near Kew. Interesting pub - The Prospect of Whitby at Wapping
Chelsea Physic Garden
The foot tunnels under the Thames

Thames Jet Boat Rush fro. Westminster Bridge is brilliant fun, exhilarating.

Well, my son is massively into football but not sure a tour of a stadium would cut it. Maybe?

So far the definite ones for me are ..

War of the worlds immersive experience

Crystal maze

Quite fancy the fast boat up the Thames too

Couple of things I’ve heard positive reviews about but haven’t been personally:

Dinner at Dans Le Noir. Everything is pitch black, and you don't know what you are eating (you can choose, from memory, fish, meat or veggie). It was a very different evening, which I enjoyed, but probably wouldn't do again!
Afternoon tea.
Ghost walk. Or graffiti walk.
Walking over the top of the O2.
Browsing around Camden Market.

DaisyThistle · 13/07/2023 22:28

Graffiti art walking tour in Shoreditch

Greenwich: foot tunnel under the Thames, Cutty Sark, Observatory, market, cable car, walk over O2 roof, driverless DLR trains

Go for cocktails and mocktails in one of the cool roof garden bars

Dopamine Land in Kensington

Tate Modern, then walk along South Bank watching the buskers

we did this a few weeks ago - teenagers loved it!

Go to cable cars www.google.com/maps/dir/Shoreditch,+London/Emirates+Royal+Docks,+Western+Gateway,+London/@51.5155215,-0.0662282,13z/am=t/data=!3m1!5s0x48797f303f2bd9df:0x8ed8dda31b3837c8!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x48761ca4fbee1efd:0x799b6c9640d63bfd!2m2!1d-0.0777472!2d51.5229106!1m5!1m1!1s0x47d8a80c3784788f:0x3ed1b8236589ff17!2m2!1d0.0179906!2d51.5077139!3e3 - there are deals with both cable cars and boats if you have an oyster card the knock some off the price

Cable cars over the thames, then boat only about 15 mins to Greenwich

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Shoreditch,+London/Emirates+Royal+Docks,+Western+Gateway,+London/@51.5155215,-0.0662282,13z/data=!3m2!4b1!5s0x48797f303f2bd9df:0x8ed8dda31b3837c8!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x48761ca4fbee1efd:0x799b6c9640d63bfd!2m2!1d-0.0777472!2d51.5229106!1m5!1m1!1s0x47d8a80c3784788f:0x3ed1b8236589ff17!2m2!1d0.0179906!2d51.5077139!3e3

down to Greenwich market or National Maritime Museum/observatory - Greenwich generally pretty, stand on time line, cute little shops etc nice places to eat lunch

then can either do fun/spooky tunnel under Thames and pick up DLR to Bank at Island Gardens DLR stop

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Shoreditch,+London/Emirates+Royal+Docks,+Western+Gateway,+London/@51.5155215,-0.0662282,13z/data=!3m2!4b1!5s0x48797f303f2bd9df:0x8ed8dda31b3837c8!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x48761ca4fbee1efd:0x799b6c9640d63bfd!2m2!1d-0.0777472!2d51.5229106!1m5!1m1!1s0x47d8a80c3784788f:0x3ed1b8236589ff17!2m2!1d0.0179906!2d51.5077139!3e3

or just get DLR from Cutty Sark to Bank and skip the tunnel

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Shoreditch,+London/Emirates+Royal+Docks,+Western+Gateway,+London/@51.5155215,-0.0662282,13z/data=!3m2!4b1!5s0x48797f303f2bd9df:0x8ed8dda31b3837c8!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x48761ca4fbee1efd:0x799b6c9640d63bfd!2m2!1d-0.0777472!2d51.5229106!1m5!1m1!1s0x47d8a80c3784788f:0x3ed1b8236589ff17!2m2!1d0.0179906!2d51.5077139!3e3

then cross Millennium Bridge follow thames to South Bank past Tate Morden and all the South Bank stuff - then cross Thames at Westminster Bridge to past Houses of Parliament, Downing STreet to Trafalgar Square - then evening time and the Theatre land is coming alive with rickshaws and people and is buzzing…

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Shoreditch,+London/Greenwich+Market,+Greenwich+Market,+London/@51.4986043,-0.0820538,13z/data=!3m2!4b1!5s0x48797f303f2bd9df:0x8ed8dda31b3837c8!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x48761ca4fbee1efd:0x799b6c9640d63bfd!2m2!1d-0.0777472!2d51.5229106!1m5!1m1!1s0x487602851d6fe651:0x507564deb46a447a!2m2!1d-0.009037!2d51.4815771!3e0
