To call the police every time they turn up?

So I have an ongoing issue with my parents, it all kicked off last Friday with them turning up screaming and shouting at me. Demanding to see and speak to my children.

It ended with me calling the police.
The police said if they come and kick off again to call 999.

We've been out every day this week, doing various tasks, mainly to get out the house as it's horrendous just waiting for them to turn up and start again.
So we have not been in when they came to the door. But we did put up a security camera Sunday, so we've seen them on there, knocking the door, window and trying our side gate.

Should I be calling the police every time they turn up? Or only when they kick off again?
Sorry if it is a daft question. I just have no idea if I would be wasting police time or not.

Yabu: Only call when they kick off
Yanbu: Call every time they turn up.

Why are they turning up and kicking off?

Readyplayerthr33 · 12/07/2023 15:40

Keep the footage and build up the evidence and then report them for harassment.

Peppermint81 · 12/07/2023 15:40

Call if they kick off.
999 not for someone unwanted knocking on your door unless restraining order.

Would a phone call or some sort of mediation be helpful to resolve any issues?

Aquamarine1029 · 12/07/2023 15:41

I would call every time and get a non-molestation order. Why are they doing this?

Mutinyonthecrunchie · 12/07/2023 15:42

Strange behaviour on their part.

BristolLily · 12/07/2023 15:43

Is there some more context on what kicking off looks like? If police who know the details say 999 then I’d follow their advice. I’d call non emergency number for advice if they keep coming when you’re out

TeaKitten · 12/07/2023 15:43

Why are they doing it? How old are your children?

ReachForTheMars · 12/07/2023 15:44

Only when they turn up and kick off.

You could ask for legal advice about a restraining order.

Peach0123 · 12/07/2023 15:59

I actually rever your first post and the one last week. Honestly I would call if you are in and they appear but also keep the footage of them coming other times and show police this then. Sounds oike a total nightmare for you. Well done though for standing your ground.

Thank you.
The police did suggest talking to CAB about a civil restraining order, but we are moving away in 2 weeks, so I'm hoping to avoid costly, drawn out court orders and just get us out of here.

It is a complete nightmare.
Cutting them off is probably the hardest thing I'll ever have to do, but their behaviour is just proving it's the right thing.

Thank you for the advice.
Kicking off is screaming, swearing, threatening violence. Banging on windows. Calling me names.
I only spoke to them through the window last time as I did not want to put my children or myself at risk of harm.

Well as the footage shows them trying to gain access without your permission I'd ring the Police!
