I know I'm BU (ankle injury)

I stepped in a hole and went over on my ankle on 26th June. Did RICE, was shown how to tape it for support by a physio friend.

It's still so sore - i can't go up or down stairs without it really hurting, it's woken me up a couple of times when I've rolled over in bed. It's still also very swollen!

I know I should go to minor injuries but I went a couple of years ago for a shoulder injury after I'd slipped on ice and they made me feel like a total time was term.

Someone kick my arse and tell me to go!

What you’re describing is normal for a very bad sprain - a severe sprain is exceptionally painful, takes a very long time to heal and can actually worse than a minor break. However, you should certainly get this checked out and seek further advice on exactly what you should/shouldn’t be doing and whether a boot or whatever is required.

Don’t do what I did (which was basically nothing except RICE) and then end up with an ankle that was still sore 18 months later. I’ve got a high pain threshold so I just kind of carried on through it at the start… terrible decision.

@QuestionableMouse did anyone tell you which way to do the stairs to make it easier? The saying is “up to heaven down to hell” but means go good foot first when going up stairs and bad foot first when doing downstairs. It does make a difference as you’re putting less strain on the bad one that way.

Good luck to you for a quick recovery.

No but I've been doing that anyway! Glad to know it's the best way!

Have you got a wheely office chair for the kitchen? I wouldn't recommend carrying hot liquids when sitting but it's useful for making your own cold food and snacks. See also a little wheely trolly.
I also got a stool for the bath and pack of wipes for the crutches and boot for each time I got home.

Can you get a knee crutch thingy, it looks a bit pirate-ish

Ah my friend is an amputee and uses one! 😁 They are piratey!

I'm managing fine at home, slightly worried about tomorrow because I have an appointment but I'm sure I'll manage!
