AIBU to ask for a pair of kids trainers that last longer than a few weeks?!

DC (6) needs some new trainers for the summer holidays- where can I get some that will last more than a few weeks before splitting/a hole appearing/generally looking scruffy? Ideally including fitting but I've had success measuring myself and fitting in ShoeZone- they just didn't last long!
Clarke's?

Shoezone are mostly cheap rubbish. You get what you pay for.

you can’t go wrong with a good pair of Nikes in my experience.

Squash24 · 12/07/2023 12:18

I always buy Nikes for my totally feral 8 year old nephew. They seem to last forever, despite the trials he puts them through

MaxwellCat · 12/07/2023 12:18

My kids have air force 1s and this has never happened they have had them for a year. Obviously cheap trainers don’t last it’s a false economy

bigageap · 12/07/2023 12:20

My youngest DC is currently wearing my eldest DC Nike air force 1's. Never had a pair of Nikes split. Take a look at Vinted also for a bargain.

Hufflemuff · 12/07/2023 12:23

I buy my sons trainers from Vinted or on Facebook Marketplace now. He has some Puma trainers at the moment which are £45 new but I got them basically brand new (and they shipped in the box) for £7 + £3 postage from Vinted. They are better quality than ones I would purchase for the same price new from a supermarket.

Summerscomin · 12/07/2023 12:23

To clarify, I didn't expect the ShoeZone ones to last, I was in a pinch and just needed a pair of trainers- it was more to say that I can fit myself but I'd rather not!
Nike's seem popular, I thought the fit was quite narrow though. I probably should've said DC has wide feet/deep arch, so something a bit wider would be better.

Nope they are not air force 1s are known for being wide fitting

TeaandHobnobs · 12/07/2023 12:28

My kids have trainers from decathlon (the cheaper end, not branded) - I’ve never had a issue with them falling apart, and they’ve even been through the washing machine a couple of times

Lavendersquare · 12/07/2023 12:28

If your dc has specific needs like a wide fit etc then you're probably best off going with Clarks. They have an outlet shops across the country and also a website and I've just had a quick look and plenty of boy's trainers on there with prices starting at £10.

my 5 year old wears adidas tensaur both at home and at school. £23 from sports direct or £28 next. he out grows them before they wear out!

thatsaysfriedricenotnoregrets · 12/07/2023 12:49

I got a pair from Aldi that were a fiver and were very good and still last. I would get a couple of pairs if he is so active he's getting holes. My daughter only uses hers for PE and to play out, some days out, and they've lasted a month so far.

purplemunkey · 12/07/2023 12:56

Nikes are good, agree. Though we’ve also bought a £15 pair from Deichman which have also worn well. The only ones that have fallen apart for me is cheap supermarket ones.

Nsws2015 · 12/07/2023 13:07

I was going to say Geox, my older son used to wear them when he was in junior school and he outgrew them before they wore out, they were very hard wearing and always looked good. My toddler lives in his geox sandals atm, and I'm looking for some geox boots/trainers for him too

whoruntheworldgirls · 12/07/2023 13:10

My daughters PE trainers are from Aldi and doing very well.
Day to day are Asics from their outlet store, excellent trainers and good for walking as have arch support

febbabies2023 · 12/07/2023 13:11

Another vote for Nikes! Or Adidas. These have always lasted well with DS and if you have an outlet near you then you can get them for a good price too

MumVUnicorns · 12/07/2023 13:16

For wide fittings I would recommend clarks aeon pace trainers - they are all my nephew (aged 7) wears. He has never worn a pair out - just out grew them. My sister just cleans them up after he has out brown them and donates them to the local charity shop and they still look as good as new.

Gotofriggingsleep · 12/07/2023 13:18

Adidas Tensaur last well for my rough and tumble son. Topcashback is usually good too for their website.

Equalitea · 12/07/2023 21:11

My eldest had wide feet and as a child he wore vans comfortably, rubber soles etc really lasted well. Also adidas superstars.
