Fed up of constantly being tired

Mcvitiesbiscuit · 12/07/2023 06:55

I keep waking up an hour before my alarm goes off, so I'm averaging under 7 hours of sleep. It's frustrating when you're out of the house all day and have to look/feel rubbish.
I take sleeping pills, falling asleep is no problem but I wake up an hourly early then that's it, I can't get back to sleep. I've had this for 4 nights in a row now.
I'm not going through huge stress atm, I'm not menopausal or perimenopausal, I have tried going to bed earlier but don't always fall asleep and it means I don't get much of an evening as sometimes I don't get home until 9:30pm.
Fed up, any solutions?

Do you exercise? Or drink alcohol?
Are you stressed/anxious?

I find a workout is the best way to get a full nights sleep

Mcvitiesbiscuit · 12/07/2023 07:03

I exercise daily, not usually late at night though. Don't drink any alcohol.
I'm a little bit stressed but not majorly.
It's always exactly an hour before my alarm which is annoying

Go to bed for an hour later and just don’t look at the time until the alarm goes off!
not every one needs 8 hours of sleep a night and it could be that your expectations are high and what is making you be and feel like this and therefore waking up early!

Whatkatyforgottodo · 12/07/2023 07:10

Could be the sun coming up earlier or a neighbour leaving for work and waking you? I woke before 5 this morning and couldn’t get back off so I empathise! If it continues I recommend a white noise machine. It’s really helped my daughter and I sleep much better when we have a fan running.

The sleeping pills will be stopping you from having actual, real sleep.

Can you see a sleep specialist to help come off the pills and improve your actual sleep?

crossstitchingnana · 12/07/2023 07:16

I only need 6-7 hours.

TammyJones · 12/07/2023 07:26

Stress - sleeping tablets knocking your natural sleep patterns out

  • you're actually getting enough sleep - 7 hours is pretty decent amount.
Niftyswiftie · 12/07/2023 07:27

That's a decent amount of sleep. I usually get 6.5 hours so that's normal for me.

Mcvitiesbiscuit · 12/07/2023 07:28

I get less than 7 hours.
I don't feel good from it so obviously it isn't enough sleep for me, I think we all need different amounts.
I wouldn't be feeling tired all day if it were enough for me.

I will try to stop the sleeping pills.
I use an eye mask and earplugs so it's not that really, I just wake up randomly.

Do you regularly take sleeping pills? They can really mess up your sleep. If you take them often I’d suggest speaking with your doctor to make a plan to reduce your dependence.

Vegetus · 12/07/2023 07:34

Whenever I take sleeping pills although they do the job in getting me to sleep I never feel refreshed in the morning, hungover like if anything. How's your diet? Might be worth investing in a good quality multi vitamin and see if that makes a difference.

SideProfile · 12/07/2023 08:23

Maybe it’s the sleeping pills that make you feel rubbish. I get a terrible hangover feeling from some for exactly 12 after I take them.

noglow · 12/07/2023 08:25

Do you take a multivitamin?

Mcvitiesbiscuit · 12/07/2023 08:26

I do take multivitamins.
This has happened on nights where I haven't taken any pills too.

I was like this. Take a massive dose of magnesium ( the one you take at night not the morning) about an hour before you want to sleep. It's helped me enormously.

Mcvitiesbiscuit · 12/07/2023 08:28

Thank you, I'll give that a go.

purpleros · 12/07/2023 08:29

have you had blood taken recently? If your thyroid is out of whack you'll feel knackered and awful

jeaux90 · 12/07/2023 08:30

Magnesium glyconate.

If you don't mind me asking though how old are you OP?

LadyBird1973 · 12/07/2023 08:35

If you buy Magnesium glycinate, get a decent brand without bulky fillers. You want the elemental magnesium to be a decent strength, which is different to the total magnesium.

I hear you re less than 7 hours not being enough. Pre kids I used to get 9 and I’d feel absolutely amazing tbh , 3 dcs and two very, very bad sleepers , my best sleeper woke up twice a night for a year so gives an idea of the others….. I was chronically sleep deprived for around 8 years , I had to retrain my body to sleep as even if my kids did I didn’t ….
I also need more than 7 hours , I think that’s fairly normal as we are literally on the go , jobs , 3 dcs , huge amount of housework ,we are on the go 15 hours a day so 7 hours sleep or under means I’m tired.
I think with sleeping pills op it’s a bit chicken and egg, they make people lethargic so that’s prob contributing to your feeling of tiredness. I agree with pps that goof cardio , lots of fresh air (if poss) is really important. Also don’t go to bed too early , I do but that’s usually as v early starts with kids etc , maybe it’s the same for you but I have a sister who has no kids and terrible sleep problems but is in bed at 9pm most evenings and then can’t sleep and tbh they are going to bed way to early.. What type of sleep medication are you on ? I also take vitamins (magnesium doesn’t work at all for me re sleep) but find vit b vits help with tiredness. Good luck op!
