Surely this is a ridiculous reason to go to A&E but what do I do?!

I know there’s men on here but I don’t care anymore! I have to post on here for traffic and to see if anyone has ever experienced similar.

For nearly two weeks I’ve had extreme pain in my nipples. The pain doesn’t come and go, it’s there constantly and the best way to describe it is that I have shooting pains directly from my nipple going into my breast.

My nipples have been hard for two weeks non stop. You know the feeling of having hard nipples when you’re quite cold and eventually it gets a bit uncomfortable, that’s my life.

I have no clue what’s going on. I haven’t stopped breastfeeding or anything like that. I don’t know if it’s a hormonal thing (I have the implant so not a side effect of my period). I called the GP and he was none the wiser bless him. He booked me in for a blood test this Wednesday but he did say that he doubts anything will show up. I called 111 and they said go to your GP or A&E.

I’m seriously considering going to A&E. I don’t know how they can help me (they probably can’t) but I think I may need to be examined at the very least. Has anyone experienced anything like this? The pain is bringing me to tears daily and I’m starting to worry that this may be somewhat serious

I could have written this OP. I had it for two weeks and now it's gone. I'm menopausal so have just put it down to another delightful symptom!

Vole3 · 11/07/2023 20:16

lanacane ointment is meant to be for insect bites but it contains a low dose of local anaesthetic which might help with the sensitivity

Montbab · 11/07/2023 20:32

If you're breastfeeding I would definitely seek advice from your midwife/health visitor/bf clinic or failing that ask for a face to face appointment with a GP

Montbab · 11/07/2023 20:35

Also https://instagram.com/lucywebberfeedingsupport_ibclc?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== has lots of useful information and you can book Skype sessions for advice for a reasonable fee, I spoke with her when I was having issues with breastfeeding and found her advice useful and reassuring

I’m not breastfeeding omg?! Don’t people press ‘read all’ when it comes to the OP’s comments?😂

For those who have Raynauds, what happens long term? Does it come and go sometimes? Do you have it constantly? I genuinely do believe I have this condition.

I’m next free to visit the GP on tomorrow or on Thursday so I’m going to contact them letting them know that’s what I think it is. I definitely need to be seen face to face and prescribed whatever the hell they can prescribe me with!

How many times does the OP have to say that she is not breastfeeding?

SlashBeef · 11/07/2023 20:40

Glad you've found a little bit of relief. I would advise you to take a pregnancy test though. This type of horrible nipple pain was one of my early pg symptoms. Couldn't lay on my front or I'd instantly have horrendous burning and stabbing pain.

ColourfulHairbands · 11/07/2023 20:49

Took a pregnancy test today and certainly not pregnant:)

Maybe op should consider re wording the original post as clearly it has been misunderstood by a lot of people. Apologies for offering some advice.

Badanxiety · 11/07/2023 20:59

I know it’s been said but I had this on both pregnancies and the only thing that helped was breast pads in my bra, hopefully it will ease for you soon x x

Willygogs · 11/07/2023 21:05

Ask your pharmacy for advice

whitebreadjamsandwich · 11/07/2023 21:07

100% sounds like raynaulds/vasospasm - heat, firm massage, vit b12, and a course of nifedipine from your gp will help

eatdrinkandbemerry · 11/07/2023 21:07

I had pain like this what turned out to be a hormone imbalance.
I ended up having to take contraceptive pills even though I didn't need contraceptives just to finally stop the pain.

IceBlock · 11/07/2023 21:12

Hey! I haven't RTFT so apologies if I'm repeating (replying mid child meltdown) but it sounds painful! All breast/nipple changes need a GP I think ❤

CoffeeandCakeNow · 11/07/2023 21:18

I had Raynauds since I was a child, and then I hit early menopause at 38, and it gradually got less and less noticeable. Try fish oil capsules and magnesium. Put a warm compress on your breasts and warm the bathroom up before you shower/ bath. Hope it eases soon, the pain is awful!

Emmamoo89 · 11/07/2023 21:20

Well the way you worded it sounds like you are still breastfeeding. Apologies!

viagrafalls · 11/07/2023 21:35

This may get buried but look into 'deep breast thrush' op.

Picklewicklepickle · 11/07/2023 21:35

Vasospasms are an absolute bastard, poor you OP I got them BFing in the winter as I have mild raynauds (yes I know the op isn’t BFing but I’d never heard of them till then). Hope they get better soon

HashtagShitShop · 11/07/2023 21:48

I have raynaurds in my nipple as well as extremities due to poor circulation. They can blanch or go blue and it feels like a dog had bitten them and is trying to tear them off, it's so painful and nothing can make it go until they warm up. It happens everywhere (home or out and about) and is horrific. You can't just walk holding your boob otherwise people tend to look at you 😂 I literally feel your pain

I literally clarified what I meant in my second post…

This is exactly how I feel!

It seems by most comments that the symptoms come about when you start feeling cold. I’m constantly feeling cold as I’m anemic so I’m guessing that doesn’t help my case at all.

On the day I started this thread, I was in so much pain that I had to keep on pinching my nipples. I looked like a right weirdo😭 this seriously cannot be my life!

I misunderstood the first post too. Op has said several times her pain is nothing too do with breastfeeding. But the opening post is a bit confusing. Anyway I hope it gets sorted. Not A&E though.

Anyolelion · 11/07/2023 22:06

I had Reynolds of the nipps when preg and BF, discovered it was because I was taking labetalol (betablockers) for high blood pressure , could it be that? My symptoms eased when I reduced the dose. You have my sympathies, it was sooooo painful. I found a hot water bottle helped.
