To be sick of bloody payment authorisations when paying online?

First off they're a great thing, when used appropriately.

Dropping 3k on a holiday, payment authorisation required, fair enough.

Buying from a website you've never used before, absolutely.

But I have to authorise my payment on my app every damn time I top up my gas or electric, I do this 3 to 4 times a week and always the same amount.

Tesco every week for the same day.

Topping up my child's lunch money account.

£5 on the lottery.

Surely there should be some kind of tracking that shows I regularly use these sites and they are 'safe' unless I suddenly try to do a £600 tesco?!

Amazon too. Use them all the time.

Had to log on to authorise 95p the other day!

Totally agree. TFL website - I’m looking at you. Why do I need to 2 step verification every time I bloody log on from the same computer and then authorise the payment from the same card I use every time (3 DC and I don’t like topping their oyster cards up with large amounts in case they lose them).

Onesnowynight · 09/07/2023 09:14

As someone who has just been defrauded several hundred pounds and had numerous attempts made on my card (now have a new one) no it’s vital

sandyhappypeople · 09/07/2023 09:15

I don’t really mind on mine, an authorisation notification pops up on my phone which takes me straight into it and I then use my fingerprint to authorise, takes about 12 seconds.

is you online banking setup to make it as easy as it can possibly be?

bellac11 · 09/07/2023 09:16

I cant even pay on airbnb for some reason anymore, I have to pay by paypal.

Plus I keep my phone in my handbag so its never with me when Im making these payments, very annoying!!

HabberdasheryAddict · 09/07/2023 09:17

I don't really mind authorizations for online payments.

But I am so annoyed about having to have a code sent to my phone JUST to log into my online banking account...

Nitgel · 09/07/2023 09:17

It's so irritating esp when paying to park with Paybyphone

Whataretheodds · 09/07/2023 09:19

Don't they give you the option to add the payee to a safe list?

marmaladegranny · 09/07/2023 09:21

If, like me, you had some low life trying to empty your account fraudulently you would NEVER moan about verification - it’s what keeps your accounts, be it TFL, Amazon, Tesco, bank etc, safe.
A few minutes inconvenience is nothing compared with months of stress and problems that an attempted fraud causes……

Minfilia · 09/07/2023 09:22

I get this with PayPal.

It asks me for my text confirmation code every time as it’s a “new browser”. Only, it never is! 🤣

EarringsandLipstick · 09/07/2023 09:29

I mean - it's a few seconds.

I'm perfectly happy to do it & don't find it onerous. However, I'm in Ireland, and I'm not required by my bank to do it for every transaction / vendor so it sounds less frequent than in PP's cases.

Agreed.

askmeonemoretime · 09/07/2023 09:32

I lost my phone recently. I couldn't buy anything online until I got a new one. It was a nightmare few weeks as I had to wait till payday.

Whataretheodds · 09/07/2023 09:19

I believe you can do this via online banking. Not sure if it’s the case when making purchases online aside from the online bank account/standing orders etc.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 09/07/2023 09:33

My subscribe and save items from Amazon are always billed around 5am for some reason and it always asks for verification. Never on any other items I get from them. Of course I'm asleep and Chase refuses the payments so I wake up to Amazon texts saying payment declined.

It's a bloody PITA!

KPops22 · 09/07/2023 09:35

It's everywhere but what pisses me off the most is having to get a code sent to my e mail to sign on to Sainsbury shopping. It could be because I use a VPN ? Do others get the Sainsbury code?

Tangled123 · 09/07/2023 09:38

I don’t mind confirming payments so much if I can do it by email, but I hate having to do it by app or text if I’ve left my phone in a different room (either because it’s charging or I just wanted a break from it).

DoormatBob · 09/07/2023 09:45

Tesco CC seems to have gone a bit mad recently. Also the app asks for fingerprint but then also asks for the password too.

Hard work when bingeing on Vinted!

So someone who was trying to defraud me would go online and add £10 to my kids lunch account? Or top up my smart meter? 🤔

I'm talking about regular payments I do all the time, not things that are out of the ordinary and indicate fraud.

It drives me insane too. And I have had my account defrauded by over £2000 before.

askmeonemoretime · 09/07/2023 09:57

One time I have been defrauded my Netflix account was upgraded and location changed to South Korea. And it was not blocked. Got my money back, but it was such an obvious fraud.
Getting something small delivered to my home address I have lived in for over twenty years is obviously fine.

AppleCinnamonBagel · 09/07/2023 10:01

I'd rather the security after I was defrauded £3500 last year. I got it back but I did have an anxious couple of days until it was refunded. I also block my credit card in the app until I need to use it just for my own peace of mind.

Jericha · 09/07/2023 10:02

Yesss! The other day I parked in town and there was only 10 minutes left until it became free. I had to authorise my 20p payment Confused

elodiedie · 09/07/2023 10:02

It is annoying but Monzo make it quite easy. They use face recognition so it’s a quick process. Was a bloody nightmare with Lloyds.

hettiethehare · 09/07/2023 10:03

Natwest are quick and just use facial recognition. Barclaycard are a PITA and you have to enter your online banking PIN.
