What do other parents do for a job in school hours?

This is not an AIBU but just posting here to hopefully get more answers.

I am 48 years old with a nearly 9 year old son. I have a husband who works full time shift work, early one week late the next.

I worked for many years with horses which I do regret now as it really didn't give me too many skills but hey ho no point regretting the past.

I had my son later in life so had to give up the horses anyway. I then got a job managing a cleaning company which I did until my son started school. Unfortunately, although the hours of 9-3 were perfect, the job was too far away to go to when my son started school.

For the last 4 years I have worked for myself as a self employed cleaner. I have arthritis in both knees and one knee needs replacing but I'm actually too young to get it done. Being on my feet 5 hours a day is getting increasingly painful so I'm looking for another job. Here's where I get stuck!

Trying to find a job within school hours that pays enough is like trying to find rocking horse poo! DH can help with either school pick up or drop off but that would depend on whether hes on earlys on lates, I cant say to a job well I can start earlier that week and finish later the next week. Our families are an hour away so no help there. The dream would be working from home, but doing what? I sat down last night to write down what skills I have and I really can't think of anything. I just don't know what to do, may I ask what other people do working round a child? Or are there any genuine working from home jobs? Or office jobs? Just something that's a bit easier on my knees really!

Sorry for waffling on so long! Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

I think in your situation I’d consider working weekends. I do two jobs just now one is a hospitality job which is 9-3. Kids get school bus and I can make it. Other job is working Fri-Sun for local authority. I’m divorced and ex has them when I’m working at the weekend.
