he went out with his 2 mates. no hoddy just a t shirt.(cold and damp here)
I gave him his pocket money and some extra for bus fare as a treat.
he rings up.
can i pick him up as he has no money!!!!!
he had spent the lot £15.
I have said no as I was bathing dd and i had a drink at lunch time(he was aware as i said i would not be able to drive)
so he is now walking home in the dark(worried mum face)
should i
a) make him pay the bus fare back.
B) ground him
c) scream

I think all three sound perfectly reasonable Try not to worry too much - it may be dark but its only just gone 7pm. He'll be fine.

2shoes · 24/02/2008 19:17

he is home and spent the money in game. so at least he didn't waste it in an arcade.
he has taken some good pictures as well
so I will be taking next weeks pocket money.

No grounding? You are a kind mummy. was he cold and damp when he got in?

dippydeedoo · 24/02/2008 19:32

could do a lot worse tbh a lot of 16 yr old are up to far worse than spending all their money in game,he sounds a nice lad imo....just pushing his luck a bit tho lol

TotalChaos · 24/02/2008 19:35

oh I think a walk back in the cold is sufficient incentive to learn to budget better for next time

2shoes · 24/02/2008 21:25

bless him he was knackered. i will let him stew than relent

actually at a slightly younger age than your DS I remember my friend walking 3 miles back home from town as she spent her bus money on a troll

pedilia · 24/02/2008 21:27

excuse my ignorance but what is spending money in game???

2shoes · 24/02/2008 21:39

lol. Game the shop.

pedilia · 24/02/2008 21:41

oh thanks

noddyholder · 24/02/2008 21:45

He sounds like he is so helpful with your dd 99% of the time I would let him off but I am a bit of a soft touch with my ds so feel free to ignore me.Very hard to stop money with teenagers as if they have none they STAY IN and drive you mad

2shoes · 24/02/2008 21:55

oh he is (and we owe your ds £6) so I let him of in the end

dippydeedoo · 24/02/2008 21:56

lol 2 shoes we are hip knowing what game is lolol

lalalonglegs · 24/02/2008 22:16

OK, I only have pre-schoolers so don't know if this is all tied in with having teenagers but what exactly did he do wrong? He went out with friends, spent money you had given him and then tried to blag a lift that you wouldn't give him so, in the early evening, he walked home. Why would you ground him or scream at him? Genuinely puzzled...

2shoes · 24/02/2008 22:18

he was given money for bus fare. he was told it was bus fare. he spent it then rang(costing more money) to ask for a lift)

dippydeedoo · 24/02/2008 22:19

i think its more to do with his mum knowing he had no coat no money and was walking home in the dark and she was unable to collect him so she was all stressed out thinking a variety of thoughts now shes seen hes been quite sensible and knows hes safe its all blown over.......til the next time

2shoes · 24/02/2008 22:21

oh yes. i was worried. as part of the way he had to walk is a bit bleak. but also annoyed that he spent his bus fare.

Still don't get it - you said no, he walked home. Anyway, glad he got back safe and sound and that everyone is friends again.
