I've noticed that there are some things that MNetters have in common;

The dc are stunning & extremely tall.
Most dc are highly gifted & reading adult level books, producing talented art & solving complex math equations in nursery.
6 figure salaries are normal but people only borrow 1.5 x their salary for a mortgage (risk adverse).
Food is cooked from scratch avoiding UPFs & a slice of cake is a rare treat which would fill you up for the week.
As well as dc doing lots of sport, MNs and their partners can also fit in lots of exercise on a daily basis as well as socialising/hobbies & full time work plus commute. They are just more organised than other people.
It's common to have neighbour issues so that's why you don't open your door to strangers.

In real life I've never met someone who ticks all, any of these boxes! is there a secret commune somewhere or a certain part of the country where this utopia exists? can I move there?

I'm reading a different MNLand where every poster is a highly sensitive empath peoplepleaser, has had a string of terrible relationships with controlling men who don't cook or do childcare, and all their children are autistic, ND, have no friends and filthy bedrooms. Every FIL has FILthy habits, every MIL is a MILLstone round their neck, and every next door neighbour is a crazed drug user who parks on their drive. Its all recorded on the ring doorbell.

Also, all the pet dogs are an unloved pedigree mistake, and untrained.
The dirty laundry is piled to the ceiling making more mould on the walls.
Dinner is thrown in the bin uneaten.
The only social life is stag and hen parties, always held abroad by brides and grooms nobody likes anyway.

Ha, I think this is spot on.😂

But then there are the little absolute gems,

Real belly laugh one liners.
A snippet of advice that truly resonates with you.
A post that makes your heart sore for the poster.
A child’s circumstances/treatment that worries you for days……..
A response written with such intelligence and insight that you want that poster as a friend.
A point of view that makes you change your stance on something.
Posts that educate you and open your mind, leading you to do your own research/ find out more. (Particularly on the feminism board).

I actually think that one of the reasons MN is so popular is because there is a massive range of people who use it, so whatever your circumstances, there are people who understand.

I’ve been on MN for nearly 20 years now, and I’ve read posts from all demographics - women down to their last penny, multimillionaires, women with kids at Oxford/Cambridge, others with kids who have profound special needs, kids who win all the school prizes, kids who are addicted to drugs, women who work, SAHMs, women with wonderful husbands, women in horrifically abusive relationships. The list goes on. Whatever your situation, there are posters on MN in the same position. So I disagree that there is a MN “type”.

@FairlySane absolutely, which is why I'm still here.

I think there is a split on here of the stereo typical mn poster that op was referring to, and the normal poster 🤣.

There are a lot of snobby people here at times, they can be very judgmental and come across as living in a bubble. No money worries, don’t need to work, have a cleaner and a nanny but are burned out with life.

These are the posters that correct a poster for grammar and spelling mistakes, call out posters for not doing enough after school activities with their children, always cook from scratch and usually organic. Change their bed sheets more than once a week, go to the gym more than most, would never shop at Aldi and hate every mum in the playground

@meddysam yes you’re right but folk will vociferously dispute this accurate depiction
on mn, yes there are certain claims and descriptors
everyone dh is top of his game on a 6 figure salary. Naturally
the kids are always sporty, musical, talented
The kids and dh eat huuuuuge portion but are pencil slim
Food is prepared from scratch always served with heaps of veggies or salad and crudités
Finally there is no social or emotional drama that cannot be resolved by a spa day and highlights

I'm a very typical MN user I think.

DH is on 6 figures. Top of his game? God no. Worst paid of his peers. He's a director and has reached his limit. He needs to set up on his own. 6 figures is a wide span btw. £100k is not the crazy salary it was 15 yrs ago. £800k is still 6 figures and much rarer.

3dc. DS1 would get smacked in the face with a ball if someone kicked one at him, and runs like Phoebe from Friends. DD, average. DS2, aged 3, is like a tiny fast bowler, never seen anything like it, and my dad was in the England team.

We all eat huge portions. I'm thin, but it's creeping up on me now. DS1 is rake like. DD has a bit of toddler podge. DS2 is just a unit. DH is very tall so carries it well, but is definitely podgy.

I cook from scratch because it's how I was raised and it's the norm for me. I really enjoy it, and it's really cost effective being able to make a good meal from whatever is nestling in the fridge. No other reason. Yes lots of veg in the winter and salad in the summer, what the hell are you supposed to eat? Just meat and spuds until scurvy hits?

Although I do agree, if I'm feeling seriously shite, I definitely feel better after a bit of self care, whether it's a long bath, a massage, or a beauty treatment. It's not a problem solver but it certainly lifts my mood to deal with whatever the said shite is.

I don't think I'm particularly abnormal in any respect and find a lot of MN similar.
