I know I'm being unreasonable but where to stay in Amsterdam please?! For a couple - no kids. I want to be in the centre and I've got lost in a sea of research and now I'm stuck. Someone please tell me where to stay thanks 😊

Honestly this is a ridiculous question. What's your budget? I mean money no object stay at the Dylan or Pulitzer.

Museum district. Nice, safe, away from the Red light area, close to canals and museums obviously!

Movinghouseatlast · 07/07/2023 19:45

The Hoxton is lovely, central and good value for money.

Search the travel topic. Ffs.

I'm stating at the ibis because its right next to the station and I can get a family room.

Amsterdam is expensive in July £300.

I stayed at art'otel last time. Also right opposite the station and you have access to a swimming pool in adjoining Hotel.

We stayed at the Port Van Clieve near Dam Square, it was quiet, away from the red light district and rowdiness and right by a tram stop.

We stayed in the hotel Adler - just around the corner from the Rijksmuseum. It's a very traditional hotel with lots of character but the breakfast was lovely and the rooms were quirky but comfortable.

We stayed at Hotel La Boheme on Marnixstraat. It was nicely located for the museums & there were nice restaurants about. It was fairly basic but cozy, friendly staff, nice breakfast & we thoroughly enjoyed staying there. Why not have a look on trip advisor and find some well rated places that you like the sound of.

Flat in Jordaan. Walking distance of shops, cafes, restaurants and main attractions.

Don’t stay bang in the city centre. Even a 20 minute walk away will be a lot cheaper and nicer. De pijp (?) is lovely.

The last time stayed in Botel
Behind main train station
Get free ferry over to Botel
There is a supermarket
There is an enormous street art gallery
Easy access via free ferry back to the centre

claracluck1978 · 07/07/2023 20:07

We stayed on Botel last year
Probably fun for us as we had kids with us who loved getting the ferry every morning and being woken up and seeing the river
It's not glam or any hint of luxury but it did make a change from non-descript 3/4* chains

Another suggestion

Get the over night ferry with a cabin
Free bus into Amsterdam
One day in Amsterdam (can stay longer if you wish)
Free bus back to ferry
Overnight ferry with cabin for the return journey

We stayed on the outskirts at a little town called Hoofdorp, at the Holiday Inn express, across the road from a train station so easy to get into Amsterdam during the day and in the evening we ate out or got takeaways in Hoofdorp, which also has a shopping centre.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 07/07/2023 20:40

I've stayed several times up near the train station. I love the bustle around there and it's easy to get to and from the main attractions. Another vote for Botel if you can get in - it's always very busy. At the very least I would stay within the area bounded by the three main canals and the train station. You can walk to most places, and if you get lost it's easy to find your way back.

The Pulitzer is amazing, I’ve stayed. Go there.
