I work in a residential home. A resident has a husband who comes to visit her once a week. It was unofficially revealed that her husband had been to prison years ago. He went to prison on 2 separate occasions because boys (now men) had come forward with information about inappropriate behaviour towards them from him. He committed the 2nd offence after being in prison for the first offence so didn't learn his lesson. The husband is not allowed to visit the home when the local nursery visits. He does spend time on the top floor of the building unaccompanied (other than his wife who has dementia) where 3 other residents are alone in their own rooms. My worry is what else he might be capable of, are those residents in danger? Also it was mentioned that he might go on a trip with the residents (and a couple of staff) he has even offered to drive the mini bus. This situation doesn't sit well with me. I think people forget about what he has done or maybe don't know the full story. I googled him and it's all there. AIBU to feel so negative about him being in the residential home?

Something here does not quite add up. No one is placed on a sex offenders' register when allegations are made, only when convicted. If a risk assessment is being undertaken then this is the right way to deal with it. I have seen accusations of this type grow arms and legs very quickly with absolutely no foundation at all.

So true...

Only those who got their license before 1997.

Highly likely he did given his wife is in a home with dementia.

When I worked on a maternity ward one of the fathers was a convicted paedophile and I couldn't believe he was allowed to be on a ward full of vulnerable new mums and babies but he was! It used to disgust me seeing him there but there was absolutely nothing i could do!

That's beyond unacceptable

As to driving the mini bus. He would need a DBs and a mini driving bus test

Most people with a full UK driving licence are covered to drive a minibus without the need for anything further (unless they're being paid to drive it).

Only if they passed their test prior to 1997. It was removed as an automatic entitlement then.

There's an echo.....😂 I'd repeat my previous reply but I can't be bothered to type since some posters can't be bothered to read.

If your management won't take you seriously, call 101 during office hours and ask to speak to the MOSOVO team as you have concerns about a registered sex offender pursuing contact with vulnerable people.

UndercoverCop · 27/07/2023 18:33

To me this sounds like he already has prior convictions and new allegations have come to light. Registration usually outlasts any criminal sentence

He has recently been convicted, awaiting sentencing.

But he's not in prison on remand?

Odd

I read it this way too @UndercoverCop

I would raise with managers and if you still feel safeguards aren't in place raise it with the local authority adult safeguarding. Things may be happening or in place that you aren't aware of but better to double check. All the adults he has access to are vulnerable.

No if they are driving a mini bus as part of an organisation. Which the residential home is. They need to do another mini test that allows them to drive "commercially" I had to do it myself to take d of e students

Maddy70 · 28/07/2023 16:22

MargosMangos · 27/07/2023 16:57

Wrong @Maddy70 , they have a duty of care , he is a known predator

They have already done the risk assessment. Otherwise there wouldn't be the restrictions on visiting when the children are there

MargosMangos · 28/07/2023 16:38

they haven't done it properly then @Maddy70
He should not be allowed near ANYONE vulnerable on his own

That isn't how it works. He will have clear instructions what he can and can't do. The residential home will be in contact with his supporting police office

I take your point entirely that their are vulnerable people there but if he's deemed not to be a risk to them then that's how it is.

MargosMangos · 28/07/2023 19:58

You carry on with that line of thought then @Maddy70 do you think he'll adhere to his 'clear instructions' ?
Jesus, tell me you don't have responsibility for anyone vulnerable
I despair
You really are terribly naive if you believe a piece of paper and a talking to will suddenly stop him from being a predator
Truly shocked at your response
