I don't know the price, but given it's by a comedian, I'd say that it's the joke. The style is obviously a nod to David Hockney, and look what people pay for his paintings.

That’s because Hockney’s a genius. But yes the prices of this painting and the £1.2 million sculpture are obviously not intended to be serious.

It's a joke price, same as with the plasticine head. He has deliberately set them as mad prices as jokes and has made references to them on his social media often. I understand that it must look mad to someone who doesn't follow him though!

Now I need to know what the price (£1,354,999) means as it obviously means something as it's weirdly specific.

If freely admit to knowing nothing about art, but I am interested in why some works by certain artists command such huge prices.

It's obviously a lot more than skill/quality because a lot of them could be done by any random artist, enthusiastic amateurs or even anyone as there's no actual 'art' in the conventional sense involved, it appears to be more about the meaning/story behind the work.

Is this for the summer exhibition? They don't set the prices.

I work in visual arts. Value of work is due to a range of factors depending on the work and artist. I'm. Not sure mumsnet will be able to tell you the value of a painting.
