To go to A&E?

My 12 year old had major orthopaedic surgery on the 5th April (bilateral femoral derotational osteotomy) - both femurs were cut, rotatated and secured with rods/screws. She was in alot of pain immediately post op but has had no pain since week 4. The last week or so her right leg just above the knee has been causing her pain. She is now struggling to walk again and says the pain is a 7/10. The pain is around her lowest incision just above the right knee area where the screws are. The incision itself looks well healed and is not red/leaking/warm etc.

I have called her surgeons secretary and we have a telephone appointement on the 17th July. Would it be unreasonable to take her to A&E with this? Thanks

Is she taking painkillers ?
TBH I’d say she’s better seeing her own team, so I’d try the secretary to bring the appointment forward, or the GP.

Go, but in the morning. You'll get no joy overnight ime.

I’d take her to A&E. At the very least an X-ray should be done. There could be osteomyelitis going on. This is an infection in the bone, so you wouldn’t get red/swelling and suchlike as you would with an infection in soft tissue when it’s early days.

Take her and they should X-ray her legs where all the surgery was done.
