Left a medicore restaurant review. Restaurant wants me to email them to discuss....what?

I went to a restaurant a few weeks ago. It was just alright, not as wow as I was expecting from the 4.6* Google reviews. My food was wrong, they returned it then the new meal was under cooked. DS wanted to order ice cream and the guy was in a rush and told DS "I will order you vanilla" when DS wanted a few seconds to think about what flavour after the man told him what they had.

It was £140 for 4 of us (2 adults & 2 kids). Not high end but not cheap either.

So I left 3* on Google and the restaurant posted back "please email us back to discuss".

I'm not sure I have anything else to say. It was in a village we went to visit for a day so I won't be back.

Does anyone ever reply? What do they want to discuss that I didn't already write about objectively in my review?

@Elphame Erm, did you fall and hit your head, this whole thread is about restaurant reviews. My point remains, reviews are subjective, different people have different views, it’s the world we live in.

I think you got out of bed the wrong side!

One of my reviews was for a local restaurant that gave DP severe food poisoning. They were 5 rated at the time. They were inspected the following week and given a 1 rating for food hygiene.

Am I going to change my review for a free meal? No I'm not. Potential customers need to know that they run a real risk of being ill. It will gradually drop down assuming they don't continue to make people sick.

@LanaDeIRabies - I was hoping it wasn’t Zatchels, I have two bags from them that still look brand new despite years of abuse and I was worried their standards had slipped as I was thinking about buying a third.

Zatchels are brilliant, definitely not them!

Not sure this is an AIBU post? What are your terms? Just email them and find out what they want?

Reviews aren't left for the benefit of the business, it's to inform other customers of experiences.

Disagree. You go to a restaurant with certain expectations of a service they want to offer you. Yes a review helps warn others, however they are also there to help a business evolve and ensure that they meet the standards expected of their customers. If they want to get in touch to discuss their error, learn from it, and improve future service surely that's a good thing all round?

Update:
No response from my email. I waited a week then updated my Google review to say I emailed as they requested but got no reply.

Next day the restaurant reply saying sorry they missed my email and offered me a commentary meal for 2.

I don't live in the area and won't be back anytime soon.

Poor service on their part and shows the "please email to discuss" is bullshit which makes me want to score them even less than the 3* I gave them.

Well at least you tried OP. Their loss.

Unknownunknowns · 16/07/2023 11:02

Just goes to show that their "Please email us...." was bullshit and aimed at PPs on here who said don't bother - that way the restaurant looks good, but it didn't cost them anything.
Even if I did live close I don't think I'd bother taking them up on it.

zingally · 16/07/2023 11:21

Ignore it.

It's a generic reply for one of two reasons: They'll comp you a voucher if you edit the review, or they just want to show other reviewers that they're willing to engage with complaints, but probably won't actually do anything.

N0ëlle · 16/07/2023 11:25

I'd hate that. You had your experience of the place. You're entitled to that.
What are they going to do? persuade you that you were WRONG? Or make you feel conflicted by offering you a voucher.

They shouldn't be focusing on you, they should focus on making sure tht other people don't experience their restaurant in the same way.
