Family of 5 going to a caravan Fri to Monday. Doesn't include food or eating out.

Dh thinks we need more

chohiad · 06/07/2023 10:28

Oh I see doesn't include food, well what else are you foreseeing needing?

silverlentils · 06/07/2023 10:29

If it doesn't include food and eating out, and I assume the caravan is already paid for...what is the £500 for?

I'd allow £150 for a weekend away assuming petrol and accommodation was already covered, but that would be my share of a trip for two, and I'm always on a tight budget.

Humidititties · 06/07/2023 10:30

Yeah I'm confused, if everything else is paid for and you're staying on site for the whole duration, I'd think £500 is far too much

silverlentils · 06/07/2023 10:30

Should have said my £150 would include food, eating out and snacks, coffees etc.

mrsm43s · 06/07/2023 10:31

Well, it's £100 per person for the whole stay.

If it's just covering souvenirs, drinks, ice-cream, arcade etc then it's probably plenty.

If you want any meals out, days out, extra activities out of it, then it would probably be quite tight.

Even a drink and a cake in a cafe for a family of 5 could end up at £30-£40, so little treats could rack up quickly. And things like fish & chips would cost a good chunk for 5.

UrsulaIsMyQueen · 06/07/2023 10:31

So what are you planning to spend the £500 on, if food/drink is separate, you’re not leaving the site and all activities are paid for?

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 06/07/2023 10:33

I’m a tight-arse but with food taken care of and activities pre-paid, I wouldn’t spend this much at Haven in a week, let alone a weekend!

Apart from the arcades and a few drinks in the bar, there’s nothing to spend it on. In fact, that’s why I loved Haven when mine were little! 😂

Goldfoot · 06/07/2023 10:37

I think you could do it easily, if you had to/wanted to, but if you plan to eat out much at all, you'll need more.

CindersAgain · 06/07/2023 10:37

Yeah, it would be enough for a week I would think.

Goldfoot · 06/07/2023 10:38

Ih if food and eating out is separate it should be fine, unless you're planning lots of expensive activities.

It doesn't include food at all.

Goldfoot · 06/07/2023 10:43

What does DH think the money will be spent on if it's not food and it's not activities?

ifonly4 · 06/07/2023 10:43

I guess it depends on a number of factors:

Are you likely to play extra for any activities?
Are you likely to buy yourselves holiday treats, ie small toys for DC, nice ornament for home?
Eating out, are you the type of family that just has a main course and a soft drinks, or will you all want pudds, with adults having a couple of alcoholic drinks.
Do you intend to make a packed lunch, or are you likely to buy sandwiches, snacks out?

I guess do a rough calculation and see if DH agrees.

ChimChimeny · 06/07/2023 10:44

That's a helluva lot to spend on the 2p slots 😂

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/07/2023 10:48

UrsulaIsMyQueen · 06/07/2023 09:55

Often people need to budget, they don’t have the funds to just ‘spend that they want’. We need to keep track of what we spend on holiday so we know we have enough money to eat when we get home. We also have to save up for a few months for our holiday spending money.

I get that there is a need to budget, its more the wording of "how much to bring" - surely no one specifically "brings" money with them any more?

Codlingmoths · 06/07/2023 10:49

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/07/2023 09:37

Is there a need to decide now? Just use a debit card and spend what you want/need to.

Do people really live like this?
so it’s £500, doesn’t include food and it’s at haven so all activities are paid for. What else is there to spend money on at haven? Are you going to go nuts online shopping in the evening?

BastetsWhiskers · 06/07/2023 10:49

You need to write an approximation on what you'll spend that weekend, £500 does sound fine.

I spent £80 on a short break recently (excluding accommodation), that was only me however.

stayathomer · 06/07/2023 10:58

I’d think more than enough unless you need to do any long taxi journeys or want to go on any excursion type activities that take a bus journey and bring you to an eg historical site- we were looking up the prices of some of these (there are 6 of us) and it was terrifying!

badluckorbadvibes · 06/07/2023 11:02

No food
No activities
No trips off site

What is left?

Arcades and souvenirs? £100 at most for that.

Oh you always end up with bits and pieces browsing! Or at least I do, perhaps I lack discipline 😳

Surely there is limited stuff to browse at a haven park though?

Workquestion11 · 06/07/2023 11:17

I did a 3 night haven trip back in April
Spent £490 odd, but that includes food, takeaways, booking the wee extra activities and gifts in the shop. Also includes taxi from the station to the caravan and back.
If your food is in a separate budget and you've already taken care of activities then yeah it's fine

I’d think £500 should cover all food, drinks and activities given you’re at a Haven.

I don't actually know what's available at a haven park; when I went away (hotel) I bought nice toiletries as a present, locally made, postcards and food, 2 taxis. 3 days duration.
