I’m not sure of the legalities of this but I recently started at a new job.
I never signed a contract and the wage was minimum wage and I was trained by the woman doing the job. She did train me on the days I would be doing.

Unfortunately my circumstances changed, my partner left and I had no one to watch my kids on the evening. This was completely unexpected and I had to leave the job. Obviously I had let the job down and I was very sorry about this. I never signed a contract and after joining I learned it was all cash in hand and he paid late.

I was not paid for the hours i worked on payday, i was ignored and finally went to see him where he said he wouldnt be paying me for the work when I was getting trained because he hasnt gotten what I was trained for i said this seemed illegal and he said if you want to mention legal issues the business is owed compensation too. How true is this?

Neither of you are entitled to anything as there was no contract…

Givememymoney · 05/07/2023 20:19

ahh okay so he doesn’t need to pay me technically?

This is bollocks as will be most of the employment advice you get on here

contact a local legal services agency and ask them to write you a letter

employment contracts aren’t required to be in writing for you having the right to payment for your time

you further didn’t agree to any notice so the compensation point will be argued by a decent enough rep

I’m sure HMRC would be interested in his cash in hand dealings

Contact ACAS for advice.
A verbal contract is still a contract.
