AIBU to complain now

Went to a half-day spa yesterday; included in the offer price was use of the facilities, half hour treatment and afternoon tea. I'm under 12 weeks pregnant and understand some spas not carrying out treatments that early on. Knowing this I emailed the spa before booking to check I'd be able to have some sort of treatment, the lady confirmed due to me being pregnant I could have X and Y but not Z which was fine by me. Called into the room by the therapist who noticed on my consultation card that I had ticked I was pregnant, she went to double check to confirm they couldn't now offer me any of the treatments they did. I was disappointed as I had double checked before booking, however not enough to kick up a fuss at the time as it wasn't an overly expensive offer just annoying if anything. AIBU to email now, not so much a complaint more that the staff should not mislead/have correct info?

This also leads to the fact I don't entirely understand the risk of massages or facials when pregnant...? Can anyone enlighten? Hmm

Definitely ask for a partial refund.

Facials are absolutely fine. Sort of ridiculous.

I'd ask for a refund.

Have a Google. It's pretty obvious to work out why. They don't want to take the risk.

veryfluffyfluff · 05/07/2023 19:01

And facials any sort of vitamin A or retinol product would be potentially harmful

hamsterballs · 05/07/2023 19:12

It's about blood flow. Massage- unless it's pregnancy massage, is dangerous because it Can cause blood pressure to drop. Facials need to be adjusted due to the massage and also lying down can cause blood pressure changes.

Products can react, some are harmful due to chemicals.

Mainly just covering themselves Incase anything went wrong. And I think that's fair.

When you first told them you were pregnant to ask about treatments did you specifically say you were under 12 weeks? If so then definitely ask for a refund.

Many congrats on your pregnancy OP Flowers absolutely normal for a spa, particularly for a mum in early stages of pregnancy.

lou9393 · 05/07/2023 20:35

@Overthebow I did, I had heard obviously that some spas won't carry out treatments when pregnant so I asked if they did and that I would be 10 weeks when visiting for them to advise before deciding to book.

@Roselilly36 thank you!

I completely understand spas etc want to cover themselves, I'm just more annoyed now having thought about it that the incorrect information was given at time of booking.

I would complain and expect a refund if you have evidence in writing of you stating that you’re pregnant and them saying that X and Y treatments were available to you, but they weren’t!

Yes I’d complain and ask for a refund in that case. They gave you the wrong information even though you checked with them, that’s not on you.
