To think Fiona Phillips' dementia announcement has been timed to save her husband's arse

AIBU or cynical in thinking the timing of this announcement could have been orchestrated by her husband/pr team to divert attention away from his failings over the Schofield scandal and general bad behaviours amongst the IT exec?
To be clear, this isn't to deny the sadness of the situation, it is very sad especially given her age.

I’m as cynical as they come and I think this speaks more about you as a person than it does about Frizell.

It’s clear from the videos released alongside the announcement that Fiona is already noticeably affected - keeping something like this a secret when you work in the public eye is impossible and having a rag paper break it would not have been nice.

And to the PP who expressed surprise they had announced it to the papers but not their sons, their sons not only know but have been tested to check whether they have the markers for it, and thankfully don’t.

Mumsnet at its finest.

Mumsnet is bloody disgusting sometimes. I don't care how much of an arsehole her husband is, this isn't about him. Slag him off as much as you want but to bring poor Fiona into it and suggest she's using her diagnosis of a life changing condition to manipulate the public into not hating her husband is despicable.

That woman has done so much amazing work over the years to raise awareness of dementia/Alzheimers. I watched Fiona's documentary years ago where she spoke about how terrified she was of being diagnosed with the same condition as her parents. I'm heartbroken for her, I really feel for her. It's so awful for her and her family (and yes that includes her husband, no matter how much of a dickhead he may be).

Whether you like it or not - In the very early editions of the newspapers that I read in the middle of the night whilst sitting in an airport it very clearly said in her own words that they hadn’t actually been told.

@Eudaimonia5 We can still feel sad for her ....and acknowledge that the industry they’re in is a dirty one where people do use anything they have to take the heat off them.

Maybe but it also might be that they planned to announce it a bit earlier and delayed due to the storm about the handling of the PS situation or planned to announce it now and are going ahead.

@PollyThePixie so you’re suggesting that between giving an interview to the paper in the last couple of days and the interview going live last night they were able to tell their sons AND get complex genetic testing done and the results back? How likely does that seem?

I’m not suggesting anything. I’m telling you what Fiona said in her interview. And you can make of that what you like.

Is this really the time and place for you to try and score some kind of point when it comes to you demonstrating what a terrible place MN can be. A young woman just a few years younger than myself has been diagnosed with a terrible illness and you insist on disputing what was said by Fiona herself and published in the early editions of the papers. Just move on from it and be happy it was later (unknown to me) reported differently.
