Do I be that pushy mum with the dr? *warning of poo picture*

Long story short, 6 week old who for the last 3 weeks been on gaviscon, omeprazole and a change of milk to an anti reflux one.

She has the symptoms of CMPA, 2 drs agreed it's a possibility, last dr I saw ruled it out because she doesn't have eczema or a rash.

She's sick after every bottle, screams whilst pulling her legs to her chest, won't poo unless my DH or I gently rub a cotton bud with bepanthen on it around her bottom, mucus in dark green stools constantly, hiccups all of the time, wheezy during and after feeding.

Do I push back and insist on trying a CMPA special milk? Or do I stick it out? I hate seeing her in so much pain. I'd have thought the gaviscon or omeprazole would have helped if it was reflux only.

I've tried looking online for dairy free formula but it's a minefield, no idea what I'm looking at.

She also has a heart murmur that I'm waiting for a scan appointment for.

Thanks in advance x

Meant to say dark green stools with yellow mucus*

That'd definitely be allergy in a bf baby but I know some formulas create greener poo but the other symptoms suggest cmpa to me.

I would ask for a completely dairy free formula (neocate) don't be fobbed off with a hydrolysed one.

You can buy df formula if you wanted to trial it but I'm told it's £40 a tin

My grandson was prescribed nutramigen by doctor. He’s dairy intolerant. Symptoms are diarrhoea and mucus in stools and tummy that affects his breathing. He’s 4 now and still the same but can take small amounts in biscuits for example. You can order it online and give it a try, if it works for your baby then you have some evidence for doctor to request prescription. My grandson never had a rash or eczema. Hope this helps 😊

Absolutely push back, tell them to book you an appointment with another dr for second opinion

My DD is lactose intolerant, I let them fob me off for months I was back and forth to get a dietician ref as a FTM, took absolutely months

When my DS as born same , I booked an appointment and was told to discuss at my 6 weeks check as it was too early to check !

I went to my 6 week check with numerous poo photos asked them to view them and tell me if they were considered normal, got the formula on prescription without the dietician ref , I wasn't going to be fobbed off again

Both nappies were very watery / mucus , dark green, both suffered with hiccups , had very fowl smelling wind too

You could also speak to your health visitor, ours was a fantastic advocate when it came to convincing doctor.

DD very mild eczema.
DS had very bad eczema, it was awful , he has just turned 1 and also had hayfever as well no, no idea if that's connected

My son had a milk allergy and it was horrendous. No rash so no allergy!! I was in and out of drs for a year. I had no sleep for a year! After every test but an allergy test I demanded they do one just to rule it out. Turns out he was severely allergic to dairy!! Trust your instincts because I went from having a very unhappy miserable (horrible) baby to a very smiley settled little boy. You can buy dairy free formula as when my daughter showed the same symptoms I just knew I couldn’t go through that again. With my daughter the paediatrician diagnosed it straight away as I’d had her on dairy free and the symptoms went away. Once it’s diagnosed you can receive the formula on prescription.

Balloonhearts · 04/07/2023 22:36

From experience try switching to goats milk based formula. My nephew was really similar and it really helped him, he was a different baby.

Blessedbethefruitz · 04/07/2023 22:48

You need an amino acid formula for severe cmpa. Neocate, alfamino, etc. Don't be fobbed off with the cheaper hydrolysed formulas they make everyone try.

Be that mum. I wasn't with my pfb. He developed a milk and then solid aversion, despite my (apparently not desperate enough) requests for help, his weight problems, constant projectile vomit, constipation. Utterly horrific, and still impacting us significantly at 4.5 years old. Fortified allergy milk at night, very limited safe foods, underweight. They take me more seriously now I have a very healthy second child with no allergies and no problems with milk or food...

wingingit1987 · 04/07/2023 22:48

Seasoned CMPA mum here (3 kids out of 5). That absolutely looks like an allergy nappy. My son never had any skin symptoms- it was all GI.

elm26 · 04/07/2023 23:04

Thank you so much everyone, it feels great just to be heard by people (other than my DH who thinks we need to push back too).

I would buy some online to trial but it's so confusing as how do I know if it's a dairy allergy or a lactose intolerance? Where would I even start.

I know some of you have mentioned certain ones, thank you. I read about them and still feel like I don't understand what one she would need.

Another call to drs tomorrow I think. I've been 4 times in two weeks.

Takemeawayy · 04/07/2023 23:10

Definitely an allergy nappy there. Lactose intolerance is very rare in babies so much more likely to be CMPA. They will try you on a hydrolysed formula to start but if that doesn’t work don’t be afraid to go back and ask for an amino acid formula. Good luck!

BaffledOnceAgain · 04/07/2023 23:53

Lactose intolerance is usually a short lived thing following a tummy bug. It is an intolerance to the sugar in milk. CMPA is an allergy to the protein. (You can just be intolerant too.) DS1 was dairy free for 14 years and he can suddenly tolerate some of it now.

elm26 · 05/07/2023 15:59

After another night of screaming, arching back and another load of green and yellow bile filled poo which smelt acidic coming out, I've insisted to be seen by dr today so have an appt at 5:10. I will not be fobbed off this time. My Husband and I are our daughters only advocates at this age especially and I cannot leave her like this any longer, it's killing me seeing her hurt so much.

ijustlikefood · 05/07/2023 16:03

My 2 year old is still lactose intolerant despite so not been been short term for us

ijustlikefood · 05/07/2023 16:04

It's so hard being a FTM and not knowing what is normal , and trusting you're instincts when the "professionals" are robbing you off

Stick with it, I hope you get somewhere in todays appointment

Clumsykitten · 05/07/2023 18:33

Recommend taking your DH to see the docs, sometimes men will be heard better sadly

elm26 · 05/07/2023 20:23

Finally! Luckily was seen by a dr who's son had the same as a baby and she recognised the poo straight away. Been prescribed milk x thanks everyone x

@Clumsykitten DH is working away until tomorrow afternoon so wasn't an option but he has offered to come every other time. That's something I hadn't thought of, thank you x

Well done @elm26, I really hope it works and your DD feels better soon

Moredramathanrazzamatazz · 05/07/2023 21:46

Yes, be that parent IMO.

Diddykong · 05/07/2023 22:11

Great! Is it completely dairy free milk or hydrolysed? If the latter don't be afraid to go back and ask for fully dairy free if symptoms persist.

mumtoboys12 · 05/07/2023 22:13

You need neonate or Aptamil pepti 1. Where are you in the UK? I have 20 tins unopened of the stuff if you would like to try it. Only recently been exactly where you are. Let me know xxx

elm26 · 05/07/2023 23:11

Thanks @mumtoboys12 DD been prescribed aptamil pepti 1 x
