Chicken pox...

Sorry, this isn't an AIBU, but posting here for traffic.
My DC were off last week with chicken pox and I did what I thought was a thorough check of both Monday morning.
Thinking all were scabbed over, I sent them back to school.
Drying one DC after bath just now, I saw an unscabbed/still pus-sy pox spot on the underside of her foot.
I feel awful for having sent her back when she's not 100% scabbed over.
I'm going to have to keep her off again, aren't I, and explain to the school?
🤦🏼‍♀️

Please keep her off! Yanbu for not realising to begin with

Missingmyusername · 04/07/2023 18:59

I would keep her off

Seeline · 04/07/2023 19:01

If it's puss filled could it be an infected spot rather than one that hasn't scabbed over?

Ontheperiphery79 · 04/07/2023 19:09

Not a very good image, but that's the spot.

Yeah, I'll definitely keep her off, but I feel so guilty. I swear it didn't look like this. I am extremely tired because of Insomnia, but what kind of idiot doesn't notice that?! Me, clearly, but I'm so strict about sticking to rules around illness.

How many days since the 1st spot? Normally ok after 5 days from then. Maybe isn't scabbing because of its position rather than that it's still infectious

Bramblecrumble22 · 04/07/2023 19:16

@Mummy08m was extremely harsh. Chicken pox spreads so easily as it's most contagious just before spots appear.... until we vacinate nationally it is best to catch it young. Bottom of the food is so easy to miss and it would have been in a sock and shoe so not spread the virus from her skin. But yes,. keep them off and explain, I'm sure they won't be too bothered.

Whokilledrogerrabit · 04/07/2023 19:19

Don't be too hard on yourself! I think it could have easily been missed by anyone given the position of it. Call the school and explain.

TheLifeofMe · 04/07/2023 19:19

Anyone would have missed that on the bottom of the foot. I would keep your child off.

She wasn't being harsh at all. She said OP wasn't being unreasonable for missing that one scab in the first place but best to keep her off now that she has.

Huh? I said she wasn't unreasonable for missing it in the first place, but now she's seen it, best keep her kid off school. How is that harsh??!

There are eg pregnant teachers who might be vulnerable - I was in my first pregnancy (blood test confirmed no antibodies and you can't take the vaccine while pregnant).

Ah missed this lol thanks, sorry for repetition

Ontheperiphery79 · 04/07/2023 19:38

Thanks, everyone.

I just needed to sense check that keeping her off is the right thing to do (I feel brain dead from lack of sleep, so don't trust my own judgement!).

I'll definitely keep her off and will call the school office first thing.

The dreaded pox has hit their year hard, with over half of their Reception class off during the past fortnight.
