People who ride horses??

Specifically people who jump (XC, hunter, SJ etc)

do you ever get nervous approaching a jump?

for context, I absolutely adore jumping. It’s been my passion since I was 4 years old and I can’t explain the happiness it brings me. When I’m not at the stables I’m thinking about the adrenaline feeling you get from jumping and I absolutely love it.

but I had a bad fall recently. I actually somehow came out of it without as much of a bruise but had a rotational where my horse flipped going over a jump and landed on top of me.

It knocked my confidence at first but I’m now back jumping since then and still love it. I get so much excitement and happiness before and after it, but in the split second approaching the jump I suddenly get extremely nervous, like lump in my throat butterfly’s in my stomach type nerves. It’s really off putting and I don’t feel nervous apart from this sudden feeling approaching the jump. Sometimes it makes me so nervous I end up causing my horse to run out.

does anyone else have this? I’ve gone back to basics with my trainer and I still adore jumping, it’s just the sinking feeling I get about 2 seconds approaching the jump. But now I can’t remember how I used to feel before the accident and whether this is normal or not. So just asking on here, do you get nervous approaching the jump? Do you get that pang of ‘oh shit here we go’ and the butterflies etc?

I used to jump a lot but fell off a few years ago and cracked a rib and since then lost all confidence. I switched up to dressage 😅

Similar happened to me and I found it did take a few years for that feeling to completely disappear. It did eventually go though and I eventually evented up to novice with no nerves

Id shit myself nowadays to be fair. Haven't jumped for years and the adrenaline always used to kick in back then Whooo that was a rush! - now I get the wobblers if they lift the front feet up when they're not supposed to... I think it's a healthy fear of what could go wrong!
