This guardian article points to what I've been observing for a while: really boring youngsters.

They shun sex,drugs and rock 'n' roll.

My young adult DC drink less than I did at their age, go out less, holiday less, work harder, save more, go to fewer gigs, hardly ever go to the cinema. They have boring haircuts, wear minimal make up, are very serious in demeanour.

Then there's the social conservatism. I've heard young people being more anti abortion, pro death penalty, anti benefits, pro marriage, slut shaming, more law abiding, more individualistic.

It's a different world they're making for us and I don't think I like it!

i’m not surprised they drink and go out less, they can’t afford it. I do think they’re a bunch of miserable self righteous po faced arses though. I mean, other generations made merry even though they were skint, these lot are only happy when they’re empty virtue signalling and telling somebody off.

I think DD (22) drinks less than I did and goes out less because she has CFS and is just too tired, but she goes to far more gigs than I did. She travels the length and breadth of the country to see her favourite artists. She regularly changes her hair colour, has already had two holidays this year and can't wear make up due to facial eczema.

Most young people I know don't fit the narrative in the article, but I know that generally they don't drink as much.

Drugs seem to be much more prevalent these days though.

and I reckon they'll do better for society than we have.

Strange assumptions in the article and in the OP. Interesting lives don't have to involve unhealthy life choices, in fact it's better if they don't. Just like living more introspective lives doesn't make you boring. I don't recognise the right-wing conservative politics attributed to young people at all. I have high hopes for their generation despite the huge challenges they are facing.

I have four young adult older teen dcs. They are really smashing kids and I admire them. Most of them don't drink very much but they all love music and festivals. None of them smoke or vape although the older one smokes weed at festivals. They are not in the least bit boring, they are funny and interesting as are their friends, I really love their company.

They are far less boring than my pisshead, coke snorting 50 year old contemporaries obsessed with reliving the glory days.

Shunning drink and drugs doesn’t make you boring.

If you knew that you were being recorded every time you got drunk or did something stupid as a teenager to be put on the internet for god knows how many to watch and laugh at you, you'd be exactly the same.

I agree with this. Also people's lives are documented constantly and they need to be seen as progressive and successful not just to their peers but the many followers they have.

We all watched Glastonbury and the Reading line up looks really good. Lots of music there that I like and that they like. Chart music in the late 80s was fucking awful. Thank god for rave.

its hard to be objective I know but I do think this is true. Stuff like ed Sheeran, Adele, Lewis capaldi would have been radio two music, for mums and dads, when I was a kid. It’s only grime music which seems genuinely fresh and exciting.
my kids are 15 and 16 and seem to be raiding the past. The Beatles (of course), the smiths, the clash, the stranglers, loads of ska, dépêche mode, prince and Michael Jackson all seem to be hitting the mark for them.

The OP is clearly at least one generation above their adult DC and the generation they're complaining about - they could be anything between 40-70!

It's the new generations time to shape the world, older generations had their time - it's just the way the world goes 😊

Read any thread about why young people struggle to buy a house and you get other generations berating them for spending their money on expensive phones, a few coffees and a Netflix subscription while proudly saying how they scrimped and saved , never went abroad, had Bill and Janet's second hand sofa and no washing machine for the first 5 years to get their much more reasonably priced house

Young people are supposed to rebel against the life choices of their parents. If Boomers' idea of an interesting life is excessive drinking and casual sex, that's what their kids will rebel against.
