Is it post viral fatigue if you can still keep going?

I've had a bug for about a month - started as a very covid-y cough, fever, fluey feeling - tested negative - and has just draaaagged on since. DP and kids also still coughing but don't seem to feel ill.

I am sooo tired. I wake up tired. I can barely drag myself through the day. Going up stairs feels like a mountain. Reminds me of first trimester exhaustion.

But .. I have two kids 6 and 2, so I keep on going, because there's no alternative.

But if I really had 'fatigue', like CFS, I couldn't do that right? I would just be unable to get up?

Just trying to work out if I'm ill and need to investigate or just being a bit of a wuss and need to buckle up!

I’ve had Cfs where l was too weak to breathe or move.

Chronic and severe it may not be but it's still sounds like you haven't fully b recovered from the virus

Ventilator?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 03/07/2023 16:05

No, not ventilator but breathing was affected.

Sounds like post viral fatigue to me. My son had it following a really bad virus that saw him in hospital for 5 days on oxygen. He developed anaemia afterwards too which didn’t help with the tiredness. It’s taken him over a year to recover properly, everything has taken a hit but he still attended school (was white as a sheet and washed out whilst there though).

I felt shattered an had a sore chest walking for 6 months after a veyr mild bout of covid. I wasn't unable to do stuff, but I was geuinely just exhuasted and my lungs really hurt.

You absolutely might be able to get up and function, but you would be fatigued which you are. If you're fatigued, you're fatigued.

Yes sounds like post viral fatigue. It doesn’t render everyone bedridden.

Sounds very similar to what I’ve had recently. My GP said they are seeing a lot of adults with similar symptoms whereas normally it’s be children. If you feel fatigued then it’s really important to rest when you can rather than pushing through. Hope you feel better soon xx

You can have ME which is mild or moderate rather than severe. I did, for several years . I could get out of bed most days with difficulty but would become unwell if I did too much . I had to keep going. It started after a virus I had as a teenager in the early 90s but I had a parent who was not only abusive but didn't believe in the diagnosis I had been given and would not have allowed me to drop out of school. My life wouldn't be worth living if other tried to stand up to that parent , they could be violent if they didn't get their way. Took me almost 8 years to be well, I just didn't get the rest I needed. Doctors did so many tests but ME was only diagnosis that fit.

It was pretty classic case, I was told .as well as fatigue i had

Sudden drops in blood pressure, giddiness, faintness, orthostasis.

Post exertions malaise

Sore muscles

Restless legs

Constant sore throat swollen glands (not GF) low grade fevers

Weakness

Inability to stand for any length of time

Headaches

Sensitive to light

Did have breathlessness but it was a sense of I couldn't get enough oxygen in my lungs. Always yawning as well. Felt like a tube in my arm sucking out oxygen.

The virus that started it wasn't anything major either . Which is why it was surprising to me that I didn't just shake it off.
